KRON
is the Bay Area's soon-to-be independent television
station. KRON-4 loses its NBC affiliation
to KNTV in San Jose on January 1st. Channel
4 used to be the home of the Bay's most recognizable
faces, but 'RON has lost most of them when the announcement
was made that they would lose NBC and go at it on
their own. Most notably, Pete Wilson announced
that he would be leaving his post at KRON on December
31st and moving to cross-town rival KGO-TV. Wilson
also has a daily talk show on KGO Radio AM 810.
Wilson will anchor KGO's 6:00 PM edition of
ABC 7 News with Jessica Aguirre.
On
October 22nd, 2001, KRON-4 shed its six-year-old
graphics package (there was a new open made in-house
this January when the newscast title was changed
from NewsCenter 4 to KRON 4 News, but everything
else stayed the same) and dumped Michael Boyd's
KRON Instant Classics news music package.
Now, the new KRON 4 News has a fresh, new
look, and it's set to the subtle yet hard-hitting
tunes of Stephen Arnold's Overture package.
What
will happen with KRON on January 1st, 2001? We'll
just have to wait and see. We do know that
we will see an expanded morning newscast from 5:00
AM to 9:00 AM, a new hour of news in the midday,
and a new 9:00 PM newscast. Stay with Northern
California's TV News Site for all of the information
as the Bay's Big Switch happens.
