Tips

Backup up your diary entry
Okay, I know that the current version of MyDiary does not support built-in data backup. But trust me, this features is in the top priority to be implemented in the next major release of MyDiary. But meanwhile, there are steps you can do for yourself to backup your precious diary entries, until this features is implemented in the next version of MyDiary.

MyDiary store your data in several files. There are three groups of the files: (1) diary data, (2) index,  (3) user data.

The diary data files consists of the following files, all of which are located in the MyDiary program path:
1.  MyDiaryData.DB
2.  MyDiaryData.MB
3.  MyDiaryData.PX
4.  MyDiaryData.VAL
5.  MyDiaryData.XG0
6.  MyDiaryData.YG0

The index files, which also resides in the MyDiary program path, consists of:
1.  MyDiaryIndex.DB
2.  MyDiaryIndex.MB
3.  MyDiaryIndex.PX
4.  MyDiaryIndex.VAL
5.  MyDiaryIndex.XG0
6.  MyDiaryIndex.YG0

The user data, are stored in the following files in the MyDiary program path:
1.  MyDiaryUser.DB
2.  MyDiaryUser.PX
3.  MyDiaryUser.VAL

So, if you need to backup your diary entries, you should copy the files in the diary data files group. Subsequently, if you're a registered user, you will also need to backup the files in the user data category to preserve your existing user configuration.

Note that also, should you decide for any reason to uninstall MyDiary, all the diary data files, index, and user data will also be deleted. Take extra precautions on this.

Index
Generally, turning on the options to automatically updates the index (in the Tools -> Options menu) will add several seconds to the process of saving your data. This, however depends greatly on how fast your system is, and how long is your entry. If you're not going to search for specific text across the database, turning off this option may significantly speed up your saving process.

The larger, the better
For an optimum and better use of MyDiary, it is advisable that you use a screen resolutions larger than 640x480. This will make entry editing easier, and also will also all the toolbar to stay in the same line, and still making all the button visible.

The Coolbar
MyDiary interface, among other, includes two coolbars, one in the top, and the other in the bottom. Both of the coolbar consists of several control embedded in them. You can resize the individual bands in the coolbar, and even move the bands up or down, making several lines of bands available. To resize the bands, move your mouse over the edge of the band you want to resize. The band edge is usually indicated by this symbol: coolbar_resize.jpg (4735 bytes)

When the mouse cursor shape change to a double-headed arrow, you can click and drag the mouse to move or realigned the bands.
