The Brewhouse was added to the Havelock North Tavern 'Happy Tav' in late 1994 by proprietors Roger and Pauline Whinham. It was the area's first boutique brewery, adding more to the tavern which already contained two bars, restaurant, bottlestore, garden bar and a volleyball pit. Thus giving the complex indoor and outdoor entertainment areas, making it a unique venue in the region.
The bars and bottlestore were remodeled to encompass the Brewery of which all aspects can be seen by patrons.

The Brewhouse is 100% naturally breed, using the finest malts & hops to produce a full well rounded product enjoyed by a large cross section of the community. The Brewhouse produce a full range of  beers (named after local landmarks). Arataki Draught - traditional, well balanced full malt draught ale, medium coloured with a mild malty aroma. Tuki-Tuki Gold Lager - clean tasting golden lager, combining sweet bitterness with a crisp sharp aroma. Mount Erin Dark - the classic traditional dark ale full bodied with rounded flavours, derived from a blend of dark roasted malts, a beer with character. (Specialty Beers are also brewed upon request).  All Brewhouse beers are 4% alc/vol. They are unpastuerised, lightly filtered and contain no preservatives or adjuncts.

The Brewhouse is a 1200 litre batch brewed plant with a operating capacity of 250,000 litre per year. Beer is available over the bar, plus flagons (and kegs) can be purchased to take home.

Brewhouse gained awards in 1996 at the NZ Beer and Food Festival, Taupo.
