Orchids and Computers Monday, February 21st at the South Euclid Community Center Now that we are living in the "computer age" it's about time we all learn how to use computers to enhance our lifestyles. Especially for those of us who don't use computers every day in the workplace, our program this month will help teach us how to take advantage of computers to research orchids, shop for plants, even talk to other growers around the world. There are almost no limits to what can be done. This month we will have several speakers and will break up into small groups so several topics can be covered. Fred Bess will be teaching us about "search engines" which are used to make it easier to locate information on line. Lynn Blinebery will be helping us with the ins and outs of shopping on line, and setting up web sites. Beth Straubhaar will be demonstrating the "Wildcat" orchid registration software. This program lists the parentage of all orchid hybrids and is most useful when registering plants for shows, in fact if you have plants that you want to research you should bring their names with you so you can look them up. This meeting should have a wealth of information for everyone, even if you don't own a computer. Who knows? maybe you will leave the meeting and head for the computer store!

Spring Show Our spring show this year will be held on March 11th and 12th at the South Park Mall in Strongsville. Once again this will be a joint show with the West Shore Orchid Society. Your time is needed to help with the show. Call Karen Krenzel to volunteer. This is an excellent way to get involved with our society, learn more about orchids, and have some fun too. |
