Jewish agrarian colonization of Mariupol district (Yekaterinoslav province) in the 2nd half of the XIX-th century

Abstract
The attempt of elucidation of some aspects concerning Jewish agricultural colonization
of Donbass on the second half of XIX century is made in this paper. The paper is based on
the example of Mariupol region of Yekaterinoslav district.
It was shown that Jews-colonists were capable to solve the difficult problems in spite of
different obstacles connected with the process of becoming familiar with agriculture (in
particular, such as legislative and administrative barriers, and the absence of skills to
agricultural activity, which is typical for Jews).
