FREEDOM FORCE SKINS - Page 1

AIRMALE

Professor Stephens became the masked hero known as Airmale. He could fly, was very strong, smart and fast, and had one of the singularly most annoying sidekicks in history: Stampy. How annoying was Stampy? When Airmale wouldn't believe that Stampy had found a camera that took pictures of the future, and a picture indicated the train they were going to take the next day was going to get wrecked, Stampy CHLOROFORMED Airmale so he'd miss the train. Good initiative on Stampy's part, I guess, but lousy execution.

AIR WAVE I

Air Wave I was really District Attorney Larry Jordan. He could pick up virtually any radio broadcast or listen in on telephone lines with the receivers in his unique helmet. He can also travel along telephone lines at "the speed of electricity" using special skates in his boots. He could also climb walls and generate magnetic attraction over short distances. Larry Jordan was killed when criminals he had convicted as D.A. sought vengeance on him and his family. His wife Helen briefly wore his costume to avenge his memory.

THE ANARCHIST

Tike Alicar's sweat can turn into acid when it is exposed to the open air, which allows him to create an burning blast that he can direct through his hands. The Anarchist is one of the members of the new X-Force, and has actually survived quite a few missions (so far).

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Basic - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

ARM-FALL-OFF BOY

Now if this isn't the strangest character to do a skin of, I don't know who is. The legendary Arm-Fall-Off Boy appeared only once, in Secret Origins #46, in a story detailing the origin of the Clubhouse of the Legion of Super-Heroes. He was one of the very first group of Legionnaire applicants, and he umm didn't quite make it onto the team for some strange reason. While, at least until someone comes up with a special mesh, it's pretty difficult to really simulate his one super-power in Freedom Force, it is definitely one of the weirdest ones anyone ever had. Arm-Fall-Off Boy had the special ability to remove his left arm and club a bad guy with it. No, really. He did. Honest.

This skin is the closest I can come to simulating the greatness that is Arm-Fall-Off Boy. He's an alien and actually very textured, as well as being kinda tubby and pear-shaped. The skin makes him look like something Mike Grell created back in the seventies, but that is pretty far from the case, as Gerard Jones, Curt Swan and Ty Templeton were responsible for creating him.

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Basic - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

(JACK KIRBY'S) ATLAS

Atlas was a member of the "Kingdom Come" Justice League, but originally he was the last survivor of the people of the Crystal Mountain. His incredible strength and fighting prowess was of good use as he searched for Hyssa, the man responsible for the destruction of his village and people.

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Basic - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

THE ATOM II

I know...it's just the Atom. But no, it's really not just any Atom, as this is the seasoned battle veteran Ray Palmer from JLA #13 & 14. In Grant Morrison's classic "Rock of Ages" storyline, this Atom, with the help of Green Arrow Connor Hawke, killed Darkseid. Yes, that Darkseid. Let's see Hank Pym try that with Thanos sometime. Can you say "squish"?

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Basic - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

ATOM-JAW

Atom-Jaw was originally Mr. Preston, a scientist injured in an atomic experiment at Oakridge during WWII. Dr. Gerald Safion performed a miraculous operation on him to save his life, replacing half of his destroyed face with Compound X-4. Mr. Preston went insane with rage upon seeing his new face, finding that his new metal jaws could destroy metal, bricks, almost any substance. He regained his composure and went back to his position, but disappeared after the war. Years later, Captain Marvel II was beset by the fury of Atom-Jaw. The criminal known as Doctor Fate freed Atom-Jaw from custody, but Atom-Jaw betrayed the villain and has done his best to go straight.

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Basic_Effects - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

THE BADGER

Norbert Sykes was a Vietnam veteran whose experiences as a P.O.W. led him into a deep psychosis. While at an asylum in Wisconsin, he beats up some teenagers who were killing ducks, prompting him to become a vigilante, and does so, taking the identity of the Badger whenever his reason loses its grip on reality. His mania does give him great strength at times, making him a formidable foe of evil.

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Basic - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

BARON BLITZKRIEG

Baron Blitzkrieg is a major foe of the All-Star Squadron, the Young All-Stars, and the pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths Golden Age Wonder Woman. He also killed the Red Bee! The Nazi bastard!.

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Cape - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

THE BEARDHUNTER

Ernest Franklin was unable to grow facial hair due to a genetic deficiency, so naturally he waged war on all men with beards. Ernest left his strange little world of wrestling magazines, shaving cream, body oil and murder when he was hired to kill the bearded Niles Caulder, the Chief of the Doom Patrol. One does not get between the Chief and his chocolate.

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Belt - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

BIRDMAN

Birdman was really Ray Randall, a secret agent transformed by exposure to solar radiation into the winged super-hero. Birdman can fly (obviously) and fire blasts of solar energy. He is assisted in his efforts by his giant blue eagle Avenger. He had a partner named Birdboy for a short while, and lately has taken up the legal profession as Harvey Birdman, Attorney-at-Law (which he excells at more than super-heroing).

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Basic_Wings - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin (and a bit of Mr_Pantz's Male_Basic_Wings Skin).

BLACK JACK

Black Jack was one of the stars of Zip Comics for Archie Publications. Jack Jones was a police detective with a yen for gambling. When criminals trapped him and walled him up in an old mansion, he managed to escape using a playing card to work through the mortar. Jack let the criminals think he had died, and assumed the identity of Black Jack, after the card that saved his life.

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Belt - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

THE BLACK OWL

Well, the first thing you might notice about the Black Owl is that he wears a costume that isn't black and doesn't resemble an owl. Doug Danville, "society glamour boy," originally wore an owl mask with a tuxedo before adopting his semi-skin-tight costume. After several years of crimefighting, the Black Owl gave his costume and responsibilities as a crimefighter to Walt Walters (the father of teenage crimebusters Yank and Doodle).

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Cape - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

THE BLACK TERROR

The Black Terror was really pharmacist Bob Benton, who received strange (and often wildly fluctuating) super-powers from inhaling "formic vapors." He is one of the classic heroes of the Nedor Publishing Company, who's stable also included Doc Strange and Pyroman.

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Cape - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

BLACK VULCAN

Black Vulcan (who's superhero name is really Supervolt) was the first multicultural member of the Super Friends. His powers were best described on Harvey Birdman as like having "electricity...in your pants." He was pivotal in Apache Chief's lawsuit against the Javalux coffeehouse, and he later joined the Multiculture Pals.

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Alpha - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

THE BLAZING SKULL

Mark Todd was a reporter who had been given powers (including an immunity to fire) by a race of "skull-men" he had discovered living in an underground world in the Far East.

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Basic_Skullhead - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

BLITZEN

Blitzen is the partner of Eclair, the greatest superheroine of Belguim. She calls herself a "righteous speed demon and trust fund darling of justice," and who's to say she isn't? The Tick certainly didn't when he teamed up with her to fight Octopaganini and the Soviet Bloc Russian Cowboy.

Base Mesh/Skin: Female_Cape - using DarkJared's Generic_Female Skin

THE BLUE BEETLE I

The Golden Age Blue Beetle was really rookie policeman Dan Garrett, who was given super-strength by Vitamin 2-X, and a bulletproof cellulose costume to fight crime in his off-hours. Unlike his later namesakes, this Dan Garrett would, on occasion, shoot a bad guy in cold blood.

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Basic_Skullhead - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

BRAINWAVE I

Henry King used his formidable mental abilities to battle the original Green Lantern and the Justice Society. When the JSA came out of retirement in the seventies, so did Brainwave, fashioning himself an illusory body and attempting to kill his enemies once again. While he was "retired," King met and fell in love with Merry Pemberton (also known as Merry, Girl of 1,000 Gimmicks) and she gave birth to a son. Henry King, Jr. took up the guise of Brainwave Jr. and joined Infinity, Inc., so as to bring some respect back to the family name.

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Basic - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

BROTHER VOODOO

Jericho Drumm's spirit is joined with that of his deceased brother Daniel to become the Haiti's houngan supreme, Brother Voodoo. Having destroyed the evil Damballah and his cult, Brother Voodoo has also assisted Spider-Man, The Thing and the Black Panther.

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Alpha - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

CAPTAIN CANUCK

"Canada's Superhero" was created by Richard Comely. Tom Evans wore special "electro-thermic underwear" and had exceptional strength and martial arts training, working as an agent for the Canadian International Security Agency (CISO).

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Basic - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

CAPTAIN COMET

Captain Comet was one of the heroes who heralded the onset of the Silver Age of Comics. Adam Blake was Comics' second declared "mutant" (after the Sub-Mariner) , born with amazing mental powers that would not be common on Earth for another 100,000 years.

Naturally, this skin of Captain Comet is missing one thing: His holster and pistol. Unfortunately, no mesh really accomodates that feature well yet, and it looks dumb just drawn on the side of his leg. Interesting fact: Had the original "Secret Society of Super-Villains" series run a few more issues, the origin of his sidearm (which he never used) would have been revealed. The pistol he carried was going to turn out to be the most powerful weapon in the universe. It could literally do anything...unfortunately whatever it did to the target, it would also do to the shooter. So it was about as useful as the Ultimate Nullifer in combat.

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Belt - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

CAPTAIN FREEDOM

Newspaper publisher Don Wright was really the star-spangled Captain Freedom. He battled the Axis powers on the homefront (in the pages of Harvey Comics' Speed Comics), with the assistance of a gang of kids known as the Young Defenders (shades of Simon & Kirby!).

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Basic - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

CAPTAIN MAGNET

Captain Magnet was really Johnny Calhoon, a young American (strangely enough for a Brit comic book) who took a secret formula created by a German scientist that's allows a person to break "the mystic law of gravity." Captain Magnet can fly and has magnetic abilities (naturally).

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Cape - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

CAPTAIN MARVEL II

Captain Marvel II was an android created by aliens of a distant world and sent to Earth to keep the peace. Assuming the identity of Professor Roger Winkle, Captain Marvel's identity is known only to young Billy Baxton (yeah, I know, but that was the kid's name). Besides being a walking encyclopedia on almost every subject known, Captain Marvel had "Astro-Boots" allowing him to move anyway he wanted, laser-beam eyes, and when he said the magic word "Split" his body came apart at the joints (and he maintained complete control over the parts, which would fly around the room, otherwise he'd be as useless as Arm-Fall-Off Boy or the current Manhunter). The word "Xam" would reunite his body.

Base Mesh/Skin: Bootcuff_Mesh - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

CAPTAIN TOOTSIE

Captain Tootsie is the friend of all children, and killer of bears, gorillas and many other dangerous creatures. He has great courage and a physical fitness fueled by Tootise Rolls (which, somehow, have failed to make me similarly physically fit), and no super powers. He does however have The Secret Legion...three kids who help him out on his adventures (and vice versa). Fatso, Fisty and Rollo are names best left to history perhaps.

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Basic - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

CAPTAIN UNIVERSE I

Jim Logan was a researcher in the United Nations Interplanetary Division who treated himself electronically and now whenever he shouts the word "Galap", forces from space transform him into Captain Universe, "The Super Marvel." His magic word, by the way, stands for the names of five great scientists (Galileo, Archimedes, Leonardo Da Vinci, Aristotle & Pythagoras).

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Basic - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

THE CHALLENGERS OF THE UNKNOWN
ACE MORGAN PROF HALEY
RED RYAN ROCKY DAVIS
DR. JUNE ROBBINS

The Challengers of the Unknown were a group of four men who were brought together because they all believe they were living on "borrowed time", having cheated death numerous times already. Ex-heavyweight boxing champ Rocky Davis, oceanographer and skin diver Prof Haley, test pilot Ace Morgan, and acrobat/electronics expert Red Ryan banded together and the legendary Challenger Mountain headquarters was born. Dr. June Robbins is considered to be the fifth Challenger, being a computer and robotics expert.

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Basic - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin (used for all four male Challengers); June Robbins created using the Female_Mediumhair Mesh and a combination of Mienk's base skin for that mesh and DarkJared's Generic_Female skin.

CHRONOS I

David Clinton began his career as the super-villain Chronos to capitalize on his lifelong fascination with timepieces. He originally used a number of time and clock inspired weapons, and later on actually made devices that could manipulate time. He was a member of the original Injustice Gang, and has crossed paths regularly with the Atom and the Blue Beetle.

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Cape - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

COLOR KID

Ulu Vakk was one of the many people who have tried out for membership in the Legion of Super-Heroes. His ability to change the color was judged not to be sufficient to gain membership, but he did join up with several other rejected applicants to form the Legion of Substitute Heroes.

This skin unfortunately does not accurately reflect his costume because of the basic limitations of the skin (his boots should be half-white & half-black, but unfortunately it won't show up that way).

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Basic - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

COSMIC KING

Little is known of the 30th Century super-villain known as Cosmic King, other than he is a Venusian who was exiled from the planet when a laboratory accident gave him the power to transmute inanimate objects (an ability that the Venusians regarded as inherently evil). As a founding member of the Legion of Super-Villains, he has gone up against the Legion of Super-Heroes on several occasions. He has no skill at hand-to-hand combat, but his ability to transmute inanimate objects (in elemental composition, structure and form) knows no limitations.

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Belt - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

THE CREEPER

The Creeper is actually obnoxious talk show host (and former security investigator) Jack Ryder, who was left for dead by mobsters after pursuing a lead at a costume party. He was found by Dr. Emil Yatz and given a sereum that gave Jack greater strength and stamina and a amazing healing factor (a long time before Wolverine). Yatz also gave Jack a device that could rearrange the molecular structure of matter, making it weightless and invisible, which he implanted in Jack's wound. Tapping the device, the bizarre costume he wore disappeared and then reappeared right as Yatz was killed by a bullet. Using a strange laugh and voice, Jack extracted vengeance on the murderers in his first appearance as The Creeper.

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Alpha - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

THE CRIMSON AVENGER II

The second Crimson Avenger made only a single appearance, in World's Finest Comics #131. Dr. Albert Elwood took the name of the former lawman to help Superman, Batman and Robin battle the Octopus Gang. For the most part, he was more of a hindrance than a help, but the Crimson Avenger did eventually save the day!

Base Mesh/Skin: Male_Basic - using the Gryphon's Generic Muscle Skin.

THE CYCLONE

The Cyclone was originally a NATO engineer who created a way of using tornados as weapons. When his designs were rejected, he swore revenge and assumed his costumed identity. He battled Spider-Man on two occasions (the second time he also fought Moon Knight as well), and was one of the many super-villains killed by Scourge in the "Bar With No Name."
