We left Cordoba on December 25, at 10.00, since we had gone to bed at 02.30 am, due to the Christmas party…
We travelled al day, past Santa Fe, under the Parana river (there is a tunnel under the river). We stayed in Goya (province of Corrientes) for the night. The next morning we went past Corrientes city, past Posadas (the capital of Misiones), past Puerto Esperanza (near the famous Minas de Wanda (Wanda's Mines); and at 9.30 pm we were in Puerto Iguazú, near Iguazu Falls…
The next day we went to Parque Nacional Cataratas (the site of the Falls). The visit to that wonderful site involved almost the whole day… The sights are incredible !!
At 6.00 pm, after visiting the Punto Tripartito (the place where the three countries, Brasil, Paraguay and Argentina meet), we went across the International Bridge, which took us to Brasil. After the customs and immigration routines we were in Brasil properly… We stayed in Foz do Iguaçu for the night. The following morning we drove the 1100 km that separated us from the sea, across the huge Brasilian state of Parana…
We arrived in the Isle of Santa Catarina, across the long bridge, at 9.30 pm; took a small hotel for the night. The next morning we rented a flat, almost facing the beach, in a small fishers village named Cachoeira do Bom Jesus, in the North of the Isle.
We spent eight unforgettable days in a paradisiac place, resting, swimming in the sea, doing nothing… White sand, blue and green waters, so transparent that you could see your own feet… Our peace only a little altered by the newspaper articles in Portugese, telling about the (alas!)… Argentine economic and social problems…!
All good things have, unfortunately, an end… On January 5 we headed back home. We took two days to cover the 2000 km separating us from Cordoba… We went past the beautilful summer resorts on the Brasilian coast: Laguna, Imbituba, Praia do Rosa, Torres, Capao da Canoa… We slept in a cozy hotel in Sao Gabriel, in the Brasilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. At 1.15 am, on January 7, I was putting my van in the garage, back home… It had been like a dream…
