UPDATE: 4/18/06 Rifle enjoys his limited turnout time and wonderfully surprised us with his sound walk and trot. The foster home is very pleased with his progress and amazed at his willingness to do anything for their daughter.
INITIAL INFORMATION: Big beautiful 16+H gelding. Rifle bowed a tendon in his left front leg for the 8th time, ending his racing career. Owner indicated Rifle endured approx. 40 injuries during his racing career. He is in rehab in PA. His leg has been ultra sounded and the tear is significant. He is also unwinding from life on the track and needs some "down time". Rifle will not be available for several months and sponsors are being sought. He is fascinated by children and LOVES carrots. We thank the owner for giving this horse a chance at a new life. Please click the donation button to help Rifle!

PLACEMENT PENDING
Sweet and attractive yearling donated to ERR for placement. Beautiful bright bay with a star. This guy is a little bit shy, but was just brought in from 3 months on pasture. Appeared to get along with everyone in the field. Leads, UTD on everything, including farrier. Sound and healthy, just wasn't thought to be a real racing prospect. We think he'll make a great pleasure horse for a home that can properly bring along a youngster. We had him gelded on 3/10/06.

PLACEMENT PENDING
Adorable "shaggadelic" yearling, donated for placement. Nice dark bay. Curious and not as shy as Secret. Austin was just brought in from 3 months on pasture, along with Secret, and was turned out in a herd situation. Leads, UTD on everything, including farrier. Only flaw is that he was not thought to be a real racing prospect. We think he'll make a great pleasure horse for a home that can properly bring along a youngster. We had him gelded on 3/10/06.

Reddee has a very sweet disposition. Allegedly started under saddle. Reddee needed his teeth floated, they were very sharp, causing sores. He is approx. 300 lbs underweight, calcification from an old track injury on his l.f. ankle and healing barb wire cuts on his l.h. leg. We believe his condition is due to his very passive nature, the horses he was turned out with and lack of dental care. All bloodwork came back normal, his coggins was negative, we updated his vaccinations, wormed him and he had a physical. We expect him to recover nicely. Currently on Equitech 10, weight builder and free choice hay. A visit to the foster home on 3/15/06 showed Reddee to have gained 100 lbs back.

DORA ARRIVED SAFE, SOUND AND IN GOOD CONDITION TO HER NEW HOME IN SOUTH DAKOTA!!!! Thank you to all who helped get Dora to her forever home.
UPDATE: 2/27/06 Dora was picked up and is now enroute to South Dakota!!! We'll update upon her arrival.
UPDATE: 2/10/06 Dora was accepted in to the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary in South Dakota. We are now working on transportation, if you wish to help sponsor a portion of her transport, it will be greatly appreciated. Large pony sized mare. Dora was displaced after the farm she lived at for several years was sold. Thank you to John, Mary and Sheri for ensuring Dora's safety. She has been allowed to live ungentled all of her life and is a very opinionated lady. We hope to find a sanctuary program or very experienced home where Dora can be appreciated and properly cared for. Bloodwork came back fine, coggins was negative and she's up to date on her shots. We have haltered her, but do not consider her "halter broke". She has trust issues we're trying to help her overcome. Serious inquiries only, please.

ADOPTION PENDING 15.2H bay. Cimmy is agreeable and has good manners on the ground. Previously resided at a large english barn and came to us with "headshaking syndrome". We purchased a "Guardian Mask" with 95% light shades built in. Within a very short time, the foster home noticed an improvement and willingness on Cimmy's part to leave his stall during daylight hours. In June '05 Cimmy was placed as a companion in the Albany area. His comfort level steadily improved and his foster mom now feels he is ready to start back under saddle. The headshaking appears to have been resolved. We will watch to see if seasonal allergies may be a consideration. Notes from Linda C. "He is a great great sweet kind wonderful sound horse. I really think he would do better with a family of his own and a child (or somebody) to love him. . I was out in the paddock brushing him and the other horses yesterday and my heart is just broke that he is not getting more attention now that he can be rode. My son was on him last fall and the only issue was that he would swing his rear out when mounting. Once my son was on he was fine. After Cimmy acted that way I worked with him a few hours the next day and after a few tries he no longer tried to get out of being ridden. He really needs someone who he can trust to help him with this issue. His feet are fine and his back has not spasmed in months, nor has he needed the mask ( maybe he has spring/summer allergies). Cimmy did have feet issues according to my blacksmith, which could have contributed to the back issue. He had a contracted heal and he did not toes on his rear feet. My blacksmith said this is done to keep horses from running so fast that they twist their shoes off. The only time he tosses his head is when he is trying to get his own way or you ask him to do something he does not want to. When he does this he is not aggressive toward people he just does it. I ignore the behavior and continue to do what I want to. He is a angel for the blacksmith he is probably the best horse I have, he is such a sweet heart. The other day when it was windy out the wind blew down all but the top line of my "gate". When I got home he was out. He does not have a halter on, I walked over to him and put a lead line around his neck and walked him back into the paddock. Just like that, no fuss or anything. He is really a been there done that kind of horse and has the attitude and demeanor to go with it. "

IFFY
ADOPTED JANUARY 2006
We received a call and picked up a horse in Dutchess County named "Iffy". Iffy is a 20 y.o. morgan quarter horse cross, standing 15H and is such a good boy, what a sweetheart. This boy's recent family gave him the name based on what the seller told them, he was an "iffy horse". From what we understand, Iffy is heavey in the summer months, the barn owner where we picked him up from thinks it may be seasonal allergies. We are happy to say, there is nothing "iffy" about this horse... he is ABSOLUTELY adorable, kind and gentle, and a very nice gal here in Pine Bush thinks he's perfect and his adoption is pending. Thank you to his former owners, who gave him the opportunity to find a new loving home. (picture will be posted shortly)

Incredible Joy
ADOPTED OCTOBER 2005
Joy is a 20 y.o. AQHA mare who had been saved from slaughter by a kind woman in NJ. She's a bit underweight and seriously coliced shortly after arrival in foster care. A few days at the clinic on fluids and Joy was cleared. Veterinarians have determined Joy is pregnant. Thank you to Spirit Horse Farm for caring for Joy until she found a permanent home. Joy was provided veterinary care on 12/2/05 and despite all efforts, she passed away due to complications while attempting to abort her foal on 12/3/05. Xavier
**ADOPTED FEBRUARY 2005**
2 year old paint colt. Great personality. Very agreeable colt with small belly spot and a lip spot. Has gained considerable weight and is looking much better. Summer of '03 he arrived a neglected stud colt (sucking lice, emaciation, serious worm infestation, sunburn blisters, sores, rain rot and anemia). Picture on the left shows his matted, rainrotted winter coat still on in the month of June. Xavier loves attention and we've taught him to lead, stand tied, cross tie, tolerate bathes (lots of thoses) and picks up his feet. He is maintained on daily strongid wormer. The pictures (right) shows him after some weight gain in early fall '03. New picture coming soon, these ones just don't do him any justice! Gelded 5/18/04 and healing nicely.
For more information on all of the nurse mare foals we helped to find homes for in 2003 click here.

Buddy
**ADOPTED**
Buddy is a 20 year old gelding who came in on June 23, 2004 - underweight, dehydrated, sick, with a stifle injury and in serious need of a good trim. His prior diet consisted of moldy straw. He has been placed on a combination of Nutrena Senior feed and Triumph 10/10 served 3x a day and all of the hay he can eat. We have added a Nutrena supplement, Empower, to his diet. Vet has been out, blood work was drawn and the results all came in within normal parameters, indicating that he's underweight due to a lack of food. Buddy arrived needing to put on a good 200 pounds at least. He's received his first round of vaccinations and has been wormed. The farrier was out, his feet have been trimmed and he is moving around better. Please consider making a donation towards Buddy's care, email phishmare@aol.com. THANK YOU LORA! Buddy thoroughly enjoyed his reiki - aromatherapy sessions with you!
8/19/04 Buddy has been moved into foster care in Pine Bush. BUDDY WAS ADOPTED BY HIS FOSTER HOME!!!!!!!!!
Ayman
**ADOPTED DECEMBER 2004**
Bay arab gelding, very underweight and sold at auction below meat price due to his poor condition. Wormed 5 days with panacur and we're following up with Zimectrin Gold. Currently being fed three meals a day and bouncing back nicely. Personality plus, smart and exceptionally well mannered, excellent for the vet. Very good with getting a bath, picks up his feet beatifully. We believe he was well loved and cared for at some point in his life and just fell into the wrong hands. Bloodwork came back 100% and we expect him to make a lovely companion or pleasure riding horse for a light weight rider.
Sandy
**ADOPTED OCTOBER 2004**
Beautiful 11 y.o. standardbred mare, retrained for western riding, gymkhana and trails (thank you Carrie!) ERR volunteer Gabby showcased this mare at a local show, which led to her adoption! Sandy now resides with a wonderful 4H family here in Orange County.

10 year old registered Tennessee Walker gelding. 15 hands, beautiful dark brown/black coat with two white pasterns. Was barefoot, but after consulting with the farrier on 7/3/04 Chance is now wearing shoes. Sound, sweet, loving horse, trailrides (english or western) and is very laidback. Needs someone who can work with him on a regular basis. Gentle and sweet enough, that he could be a nice kids horse with some work. Up to date on all shots and coggins and we just paid to have him wormed on 7/3/04. Due to unforseen circumstances, the owner relinquished this horse to ERR. Can be seen in Campbell Hall, NY during the month of July.

Misty
****ADOPTED SEPTEMBER 2004****
NEWS!!!!! We have reunited Misty with a prior owner who was distraught at hearing all that her beloved horse had gone through, after selling her to what she had truly believed was a good home, at the time her farm had been sold. Misty is a 25 year old AQHA quarter horse mare (Miss June Three), who had been rescued by Teri of B.I.T.S. and transferred to us, where we were prepared to provide her a home for life. She arrived underweight and with numerous bald spots and dry skin. Medicated baths, supplements, and topical applications helped this old gal. Thank you to the Bennett Family for opening their hearts and home to this very deserving old gal during her stay with us.

18 year old standardbred mare, was raced in her younger years, and then used as a broodmare. Beautiful bay, nicely marked, very docile, very sound. Up to date on all shots and coggins. Roland
** ADOPTED MAY 2004**
Very nice looking 16 year old bay thoroughbred gelding, with good conformation, beautiful broad chest and hindquarters. Well trained, but can be cinchy and upon arrival at Hill Haven, we've noticed he is a wind sucker (a Weaver Miracle Collar controls this). Foster home rode him in a round pen at w/t/c, said he will make a serious rider a great companion, but he is a very strong horse and does require at least a strong intermediate rider. Our vet completed a physical and said he's sound, sane and ready for a new home. He's been with us for several months and will need to be reschooled. At this time, he has no sponsors. UPDATE April 2004 Prior rider who worked with him for 2 years says he was a wonderful trail, hunter pace, dressage and musical lesson horse. We will get more detailed information on his past training/work shortly.

THANK YOU CLARISSA FOR GIVING THIS SPECIAL BOY A HOME!
THANK YOU TO CINDY OF LAME ACRES INC. FOR TRANSPORTING HIM!
Big beautiful 17 hand black Swedish Warmblood gelding. Picks up his feet, grooms in the stall. He is, for the most part, blind, from uveitis - we believe he can see shadows. Sweet horse, well loved and cared for all of his life. He likes to be turned out in a run-in shed situation.
Disco
**ADOPTED APRIL 2004**
4 year old thoroughbred, never raced. Prior neglect leaves this boy in need of a special home, in a warm climate. Thank you to the veterinarians and staff at Mid Atlantic Equine Medical Center for the exceptional care and consideration they afforded this boy until a forever home could be found. Thank you to Sam for adopting Disco and giving him the special home he deserves!
Chief
**ADOPTED March 2004**
15 year old bay roan paint pony, 14 hands, with sarcoids. Was said to be a bomb proof jumper pony with a few "quirks", however since his pick up, we've learned he strongly dislikes ringwork and jumping and is much happier in a small family environment with children and going out for a leisurely ride on the trails. A long term volunteer picked Chief up for us and their family is very interested in the little guy. Keep your fingers crossed for Chief!!!
Turino
**ADOPTED MARCH 2004**
Handsome 12 year old standardbred gelding, a New Zealand import. 16 hands. Arthritic in the right front ankle. Had been lightly started in a snaffle bit and western saddle, but is by no means "retrained". He developed a wood chewing habit since his friends Chrissy and Jay Jay were adopted, but this vice is improving now that he's bonding with Roland. He is maintained on joint supplements. This sweet horse currently has no sponsors.
Jesse
**ADOPTED FEBRUARY 2004**
3 year old welsh/shetland pony mare with a strong personality. Currently coming out of 60 days professional training. Owner willingly relinquished for rehoming. Thank you to our farrier and a local 4H group, Jesse found a home very quickly. We will be adding a picture shortly.
Catch
ADOPTED
7 year old standardbred stallion we had picked up by a hauler from the track on Friday, November 21st. We had been given a deadline of Tuesday, November 25th, or he would have been sold to the amish. Gorgeous horse, looks like a morgan. 15.1 hands, bay/black. Old bow tendons in both front legs didn't hold up to the stress of racing. We have him at a nearby farm and are doing self care. Due to his age, he will most likely need to go to Cornell University for castration. This beautiful boy currently has no sponsors. If you can help with the costs of feed, hay, bedding or veterinary care, please click the following link today!
Red Diamond In The Rough
**ADOPTED**
This big red roan belgian quarter horse filly is approximately 19 months old in the picture on the left. The middle picture is Red with volunteer Barb during September '03. The last picture is Red under saddle October '03. She is a big girl, 15.2 hands, should top out at 16 hands. Built solid, intelligent and very people oriented. Loves people attention and long scratches. Big flashy filly will make a really nice riding or driving horse. She is an alpha mare. Potential adopters must be experienced. She is haltered, will lead and you can pick up her feet and touch every inch of her body. We are beginning to work with her under saddle, she has not bucked, kicked or offered a bit of trouble.

10 year old molly mule. Sweet on the ground, decent manners. Needs work to be a good saddle mule. Was trail ridden last year by volunteers, adopted out and then returned at Hill Haven Farm on May 16, 2003 due to personal situations with adopter. While being re-evaluated, did not do well when weight was put on her back. She is very happy and comfortable in pasture and when not under saddle. Under evaluation, may need chiropractic work or patient retraining. Healthy, up to date on all shots, farrier, dental and coggins. Sponsorship urgently needed so that we can have her transported to a trainer and have chiropractic evaluation/work performed.

AB Can Do
**ADOPTED MAY 2003**
AB is a very handsome and sweet standardbred gelding retired from the Monticello Raceway. At the age of 14, his owners retired him through us here at ERR. AB was placed with a therapeutic program, but after three months started showing signs of lameness. Test results indicate an old injury to the right rear suspensory. Sound at the walk only. Personality plus and extremely gentle and well mannered.

RAINBOW BRIDGE
Moe
18 y.o. National Show Horse gelding. Assisted SPCA in cruelty case and horse was then turned over to ERR. Extensive rehab required for emaciation and respiratory condition. He collapsed in respiratory distress shortly after arrival and requires treatments 3x a day. Reintroducing to feed is slow. Bloodwork and farrier work done. Moe continued to have episodes of respiratory distress and collapse and when it came to the point that Moe gave up and a group of 6 people and 2 veterinarian could not get him to his feet, Moe was then humanely euthanized. We are beyond tears and strongly urge the SPCA to seek prosecution.
Ladybug
40 year old mustang mare from a cruelty seizure. Arrived in deplorable condition and vet eval and blood work showed she was going in to renal failure. More details to follow, case is still pending.
Cupcake
Crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Saturday, December 13, 2003. Cupcake was a beautiful 10 year old POA mare, 13 hands. She suffered from a fractured pelvis and vertebra that was displaced and not allowed to heal properly, and became calcified. Her injuries caused nerve damage and she was not well coordinated in the hind end. Her prior owners had ridden her in this condition and she came to us in pain, from the top of her poll, her neck, shoulders, back all along her spine to her tailhead. Volunteers performed Reiki for her. She was administered muscle relaxers and anti-inflammatories by our vet in an effort to make her comfortable after a complete physical revealed her true condition. Cupcake suffered coordination and mobility issues and the wintry weather aggravated her condition. She fell twice, was very unhappy with confinement and her quality of life was significantly compromised. Our greatest fear is that next time she fell, she would not get up on her own. The heartbreaking, but humane, decision to have her euthanized was made.
