Rifle bowed a tendon in his left front leg for the 8th time, ending his racing career.  Owner indicated Rifle endured approx. 40 injuries during his racing career. He is in rehab in PA.  His leg has been ultra sounded and the tear is significant. He is also unwinding from life on the track and needs some "down time".  Rifle will not be available for several months and sponsors are being sought.  He is fascinated by children and LOVES carrots.  We thank the owner for giving this horse a chance at a new life. Notes from Linda C. "He is a great great sweet kind wonderful sound horse. I really think he would do better with a family of his own and a child (or somebody) to love him. . I was out in the paddock brushing him and the other horses yesterday and my heart is just broke that he is not getting more attention now that he can be rode. My son was on him last fall and the only issue was that he would swing his rear out when mounting. Once my son was on he was fine. After Cimmy acted that way I worked with him a few hours the next day and after a few tries he no longer tried to get out of being ridden. He really needs someone who he can trust to help him with this issue. His feet are fine and his back has not spasmed in months, nor has he needed the mask ( maybe he has spring/summer allergies). Cimmy did have feet issues according to my blacksmith, which could have contributed to the back issue. He had a contracted heal and he did not toes on his rear feet. My blacksmith said this is done to keep horses from running so fast that they twist their shoes off. The only time he tosses his head is when he is trying to get his own way or you ask him to do something he does not want to. When he does this he is not aggressive toward people he just does it. I ignore the behavior and continue to do what I want to. He is a angel for the blacksmith he is probably the best horse I have, he is such a sweet heart. The other day when it was windy out the wind blew down all but the top line of my "gate". When I got home he was out. He does not have a halter on, I walked over to him and put a lead line around his neck and walked him back into the paddock. Just like that, no fuss or anything. He is really a been there done that kind of horse and has the attitude and demeanor to go with it. Vet has been out, blood work was drawn and the results all came in within normal parameters, indicating that he's underweight due to a lack of food. Buddy arrived needing to put on a good 200 pounds at least.  He's received his first round of vaccinations and has been wormed. National Show Horse gelding.  Assisted SPCA in cruelty case and horse was then turned over to ERR.  Extensive rehab required for emaciation and respiratory condition.  He collapsed in respiratory distress shortly after arrival and requires treatments 3x a day. Reintroducing to feed is slow.  Bloodwork and farrier work done.  Moe continued to have episodes of respiratory distress and collapse and when it came to the point that Moe gave up and a group of 6 people and 2 veterinarian could not get him to his feet, Moe was then humanely euthanized.  We are beyond tears and strongly urge the SPCA to seek prosecution.</div> <bR> <div> <B><U>Ladybug</U></b></div> <div> 40 year old mustang mare from a cruelty seizure.   Arrived in deplorable condition and vet eval and blood work showed she was going in to renal failure. More details to follow, case is still pending.</div> <bR> <div> <B><U>Cupcake</U></b></div> <div> Crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Saturday, December 13, 2003. Cupcake was a  beautiful 10 year old POA mare, 13 hands.  She suffered from a fractured pelvis and vertebra that was displaced and not allowed to heal properly, and became calcified.  Her injuries caused nerve damage and she was not well coordinated in the hind end. Her prior owners had ridden her in this condition and she came to us in pain, from the top of her poll, her neck, shoulders, back all along her spine to her tailhead. Volunteers performed Reiki for her. She was administered muscle relaxers and anti-inflammatories by our vet in an effort to make her comfortable after a complete physical revealed her true condition. Cupcake suffered coordination and mobility issues and the wintry weather aggravated her condition. She fell twice, was very unhappy with confinement and her quality of life was significantly compromised.  Our greatest fear is that next time she fell, she would not get up on her own.
