Dora The Explorer
On Monday, February 27, 2006 Dora left ERR at 11:30 a.m. enroute to SD. She will be rested and get an overnight stay along the way. Updates will be posted on the home page as they become available.
I've received updates from the hauler: He said Dora is a "survivor" and settled in the trailer nicer than he expected and was munching hay along the way. She made it just fine to her first stop, where she's been put up for a few nights and she'll get good rest. He checked on her last night, she's doing well and has other horses around her for company. He'll give us another update when there is anything new to share.
Tuesday, February 28, 2006 At this time, we have raised $1,549.62 for Dora. The veterinary bill was actually $207. We now have $402.62 to send to BHWHS for Dora, which will provide for not only her first year, but also her second winter!!! The support this little horse has received is overwhelming, thank you to all following these updates.
Monday, February 27, 2006 Dora left for SD on at 11:30 a.m. The hauler was very nice and accomodated her with a double stall sized compartment that was bedded and nice hay. She will be rested along her journey, with an overnight stay. We sent her along with her health certificate, coggins and vet records, in addition to her bucket of Strongid and a bag and a half of her grain.
Sunday, February 26, 2006 So far we have raised $1,454.62 (the odd number is due to the fees that PayPal deducted from online donations). Dora leaves for SD on Monday, or Tuesday the latest. In case folks would like to know, Dora's donations are covering: $900 for transportation, $40 for a tub of Strongid C daily dewormer, $200 towards her veterinary bills and the balance of $314.62 is going to the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary to sponsor Dora for her first year in South Dakota.
Equine Rescue Resource Inc. sincerely thanks all of the caring individuals and companies for having lent a hand or made a contribution to help Dora. Many people have come together to help this very special mustang and I hope they know they made a world of difference. ERR is grateful and knows that we would not have been able to accomplish this rescue effort so quickly without their support.
The Bureau of Land Management kindly researched Dora's freeze brand,
telling us she is 24 years old, and was captured as a baby, along with her 7 y.o. mother.
Both horses were sold together during a B.L.M. adoption in PA.
We are awaiting documentation on her titling to learn more.
Dora is healthy, eats well and is up to date on all vaccinations.
UPDATE: 2/10/06 The Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary has accepted
