Uniform Inspections

As a proud member of Pack 154, you should wear your uniform to all official Cub Scout Events. At each Pack meeting, Den leaders will be inspecting uniforms to make sure all items are worn properly and that scouts are in clean appearance.

Blue and Gold Banquet

February 3, 2001

This years theme is "Passport to Other Lands". Each den, with the exception of WebII, have a country they will highlight as their center piece. Dens may begin decorating their tables at 5:00pm, judging of center pieces, 6:45pm, and the Banquet will begin at 7:00pm. See your Den leader(s) for further details.

Scout Sunday

This Sunday, February 4, is Scout Sunday. ALL scouts, boy or girl, are encouraged to wear their uniforms to the church of their choice on this day. St John United Methodist, our sponsor church, is inviting the boys from Pack 154 to attend their 10:45am service. Wear your uniform proudly.

Scout Night Louisville Panthers

The February 10 event is sure to sell out. Scouts and their families can purchase tickets for $6.00. First 2500 get a patch. Contact your Den leaders for details.

Webelo Resident Camp

The theme of this years Webelo Resident camp: Webelos Rock, a prehistoric adventure. Camp is open to all scouts who are Bears and Webelos I this year. The camp will be at the lovely Camp Tunnel Mill in Indiana. The camp sessions the Pack is considering are July 29-Aug 1 or Aug 2-6. The cost is $65 for scouts and $42 for adults. Webelo Resident Camp offers the boys opportunities to earn several Webelo Activity Pins. This is a great chance for some special parent/son time. Moms are welcome. Registration is NOW. Have all forms and checks to Chris States by February 15.

 Pinewood Derby

Racers, get ready for a fun event. The annual Pinewood Derby Clinic will be March 3, at SJUMC. The Derby will be on March 17. Start getting your sketches and car kits together for a traditional festive event. See Den leaders for questions. More information to come.

Paoli Ski Trip

Many thanks go to Pamela Williams-Harris for an excellent time at Paoli. Two buses, 90+ skiers, door prizes, and many laughs were had by all. The Scoop has a couple of articles from Gregory States and Jared Ferko.

"Ski Trip" by Gregory States

We were watching Chicken Run on the TV in the bus. Finally, we got there. I want to ski, but I knew we had to get tags that showed we were allowed to be there. Then we got boots and finally go to ski at Paoli Peaks. "How come I have to take a lesson?" I complained. The lesson was not as good as I expected. I skied for about 3 hours, then we ate pizza and skied a little more. Then we went back on the bus. "Man, for four hours that was short!" I exclaimed. On they way home we watched "Star Wars" and we got prizes. I got glow in the dark bracelets. Then we drove home.

Snow boarding at Paoli Peaks by Jared Ferko

When I went Snow boarding at Paoli Peaks I found out it was much harder than it seems. I have snow boarded before and it’s easy for me, but the snow at Paoli was icy. The snow and the ice combined to make ice balls or snowballs and that made it harder for everybody to snow board and ski. Snow boarders have a special way to turn and the ice balls made everyone wipe out when they turned. Next time I go on a trip where the hills have ice, I’ll make sure I go skiing, because it is easier to stop and turn on skis.

Scouting Way

Den leaders and parents, have you ever thought about how far your son could go with his Eagle award? There is a new e-newsletter out called Scouting Way. In it are true to life stories of how Scouts and Eagle Scouts have used the morals and values learned through scouting and applied them to everyday life, if not their careers.

This week’s Scouting Way comes from legendary NFL player and coach Mike Ditka. In coming weeks, you can read stories from governors, senators, CEOs, sports figures, and astronauts.

The Scouting Way will help scouting values come alive and infuse Scouts with Scout Spirit. To subscribe, check out the web site at www.ScoutingWay.com. Subscription is free.

The Pack will get $1 per subscription if we have the most subscriptions by Feb 15. If we win, the funds will go towards patches and programs we offer.
