 JACKSON ON JACKSON
FROM SFX MAGAZINE

BAD TASTE (1987)
Director, producer, co-writer, cinematographer, editor, make-up and sfx, actor.
Denim clad zombies from space invade a small town and abduct Derek and other unsuspecting townsfolk, indending to take them back to the planet Nalic Nod, where they will be turned into fast food.
JACKSON: "Actually Derek (played by Jackson himself) was created in a rather late stage of of making the film, which explains why he is on his own in so many of the scenes.  Besides, it was nice to have at least one person who turned up for shooting every weekend.  I suppose my mates were pretty tired of the whole thing after a couple of years."

MEET THE FEEBLES (1987)
Director, co-producer, co-writer, camera operator, and puppet maker.
As the cast of the eponymous variety show lurch towards a performance they hope will land them an syndicated TV show, we observe their ribald backstage antics.
JACKSON: "Imagine a scenario where The Muppets have just finished a TV show.  What would happen if they went backstage and behaved like normal people?"

BRAINDEAD (1992)
Director, co-writer, stop-motion animator, actor.
Suberban nerd lionel tries to hide his slowly putrifying zombie mother from the prying eyes of the neighbours.
JACKSON: "It inverts the traditional zombie idea, because usually you're holed up in the house and they're trying to get in at you.  Whereas in Braindead we've got Lionel inside inside trying to stop the zombies getting out.  He doesn't want the neighbours to find out whats going on."

HEAVENLY CREATURES (1994)
Director, co-producer, co-writer, actor
In order to avoid being seperated, two teenage girls, who inhabit a fantasy world derived from books, films and their own made-up stories, conspire to murder the mother of one of them.
JACKSON: "We were having to present something that had no logic, but in a way made sense.  What was important was to show where Pauline and Juliet were coming from - to present the events from ouside their point of view would've been pointless."
