MESA - A Mesa police report released Friday shed new details into the investigation of a patrol officer accused of inappropriately touching three female suspects, including a 17-year-old.
Officer Matthew Driver, 32, a four-year veteran, is charged with six counts of felony sexual abuse for a series of incidents that police say occurred in June and July.
Driver was arrested Dec. 16 at his Apache Junction home. He posted bail on Monday and was placed on house arrest, Mesa police Sgt. Chuck Trapani said. He remains on suspension.
The department began investigating Driver last summer after a 33-year-old woman told another officer that Driver inappropriately touched her during a search. The woman said the abuse occurred July 5 while she was in Driver's custody after she was arrested for a warrant.
Driver denied the allegations.
"I never, ever, ever, touched that woman," he told investigators.
During the investigation, a second victim, a 23-year-old woman, told investigators Driver victimized her on June 19 after he stopped her for speeding. Driver tested her for driving under the influence, told her she was too intoxicated to drive and offered her a ride home, according to the report. Before taking her home, he took a photo of her face, touched her inappropriately and asked her to lift up her skirt, the report states. He then took her home and released her without writing a citation, the report indicated.
The report cites a third incident that occurred on July 3. A then-17-year-old was with a 27-year-old friend in the August Ranch Elementary School parkat 1:30 a.m. when Driver contacted her for a possible curfew violation, the report states. The girl told police Driver touched her inappropriately, took a photo of her face and then drove her to her grandmother's house in Queen Creek.
