Beginning this week, the city of Flagstaff will enforce more strictly a sidewalk maintenance code because of an increase in the number of complaints regarding dirty city sidewalks. The code mandates business and home owners, or the tenant in charge of any parcel of land, clear the sidewalks that sit adjacent to it within the first six hours of daylight after the debris accumulation. Debris includes cinders, trash, dirt, snow, ice or any other obstruction on the sidewalk. Business districts will be inspected more thoroughly, and those found in violation will receive a letter requiring it cleaned within 24 hours. If it's not done, the city will perform the required cleaning, costing the business or property owner in charge up to $130 per hour.
