Former state investigator gets year in prison
PHOENIX (AP) -- A former investigator for the Arizona Attorney General's Office will spend a year in prison for embezzling money from the state.
David Andrew Bauer, 53, of Glendale, pleaded guilty in May to the federal charges of stealing money from a program that received federal funds. He was sentenced Monday to 366 days in prison and will surrender once the federal Bureau of Prisons decides where he should be incarcerated.
Bauer embezzled $81,750 in money he said he used for payments for informants and for clandestine drug buys. Instead, he deposited the money in his own bank accounts.
The FBI investigated the case.
