MESA - More than 280 police employees face discipline action after an audit of inappropriate e-mails that included pornography and offensive jokes, officials said Friday.
Police said 148 employees are slated for suspensions, and 134 face written reprimands. The five most serious offenders face a 30-day suspension, and 22 face a week suspension.
A similar audit last year ended with the disciplining of 230 other workers.
Mesa Fraternal Order of Police President Bryan Soller said many of the e-mails were humorous, and most of employees have never been disciplined.
"When they sent it, they didn't think it was anything that would get them in trouble, and all of a sudden they are. I think it is wrong," Soller said. "It has really crushed morale."
