This is very unusual a cop actually being punished for his crimes and being forced to spend time in jail. Usually they get slapped on the wrist and get warnings for their crimes.

A Phoenix police officer who used state and department computer databases to gather personal information about attractive women pleaded guilty Wednesday to computer tampering.
According to the terms of his plea agreement, Juan H. Rivera, a 13-year veteran of the department, must spend six months in jail, serve an unspecified term of supervised probation and give up his law enforcement certification. He will be sentenced June 12 in Maricopa County Superior Court.
Over a span of two years, Rivera, 36, accessed the police and motor vehicle records of at least 23 people, including co-workers and women he dated, looking for such information as home addresses and birth dates, according to police and prosecutors. By law, those databases are supposed to be kept confidential.
He was discovered last June, when a detective in the bureau where he was assigned found a printout of a police employee's driver's license. The copy was traced to Rivera's computer, triggering an investigation.
In October, Rivera was indicted on 23 counts of computer tampering and placed on paid administrative leave.
All but one of the charges were dropped in the plea agreement.
