The Apache County Sheriff Office's liaison to the Navajo Nation has been indicted on two counts of perjury as part of an ongoing criminal probe of Sheriff Brian Hounshell's office.
Irwin Hugh Lynch, 64, was indicted for his testimony before a state grand jury in Phoenix last year, said former Attorney General Grant Woods, who was hired by the county last month to investigate allegations of misuse of public funds within the department.
According to the indictment, Lynch lied to the grand jury that he accompanied Hounshell to the Navajo community of Cameron during an investigation of stolen saddles from Apache County.
Hounshell was indicted by a state grand jury last year for felony theft of about $8,000 of goods and services from the county, but the case was dismissed in October by a Maricopa County judge, who said it should have been filed in Apache County.
