The Southern Arizona Antimicrobial Resistance Survey.

Founded in 1997 at the Arizona Health Sciences Center in Tucson, Arizona, the goals of the Southern Arizona Antimicrobial Resistance Survey (SAARS) are four-fold:

  • to prospectively monitor the evolution of antimicrobial resistance among clinical bacterial isolates in southern Arizona and northern Mexico,
  • to detect the emergence of novel and potentially threatening new strains of resistant bacteria,
  • to provide support for interventions which seek to control or minimize resistance, and
  • to serve as an educational resource for those interested in the subject.
