Master's Minute

WmLogo.gif (3056 bytes)March was a very busy month for our Lodge and April is shaping up to be even busier. We already have work scheduled for every Thursday of the month and will probably have to do some Saturday work. That’s the kind of news I am thrilled to report. I wish each and every Lodge had the same problems we do. Fortunately we are able to keep up because we have so many brothers willing and wanting to work in the Lodge. As I think about that though, I have to mention that I have noticed a drop in the attendance at our Wednesday practice sessions. Just so you’ll know, we still meet every Wednesday night at 6 PM and have plenty brothers present that can give good instruction in our ritual work. So come on up and start participating; you will certainly be welcome and a part will be found for you to do.

Of course, there is other work to be done that will benefit our Lodge efforts. Presently we are looking for enough members to fill three committees; nine (three per committee) is a minimum, and we can always use more. If you are interested, let me know so I can give you the details. Then if you are not interested that will be fine. We all know that in order to be happy and do a good job, we have to work at something in which we have an interest. Somewhere out there is a niche for all of us.

Here is a cute story I ran across. Thought I’d pass it on.

There was a religious lady whose business required her to travel a lot, so naturally she did a lot of flying. She was always nervous when flying (Will Rogers said he never could put all his weight down in the seat of an airplane) so she always took her Bible along with her to read since it helped relax her on the long flights. On one of her flights she sat beside a man who noticed her getting her Bible out, and when he did, he began to chuckle and smirk, but finally went back to what he was doing. But after a while he turned to her and said "you don’t really believe all that stuff in there do you?" "Of course I do, it is the Bible", she replied. He said, "Well, what about the guy that was swallowed by a whale?" The lady said, "Well, I don’t really know but when I get to heaven I’ll ask him". "What if he isn’t in heaven?", the man asked sarcastically. "Then you can ask him," replied the lady.

level.gif (1544 bytes)Well, things are firming up for the Claremore trip. We now have our letters of dispensation from Grand Lodge that allow us to make the trip to Oklahoma and for them to make the trip here. We'll be going to Claremore on May 22nd to perform a Master's degree on one of our own candidates and they'll be returning here on June 19th to do a degree (probably a Master's) on one of their candidates.

Please call me at home (972-985-7701) or e-mail me (dstarr1@ibm.net) and let me know if you are going. Your need to make reservation shortly for the hotel in Claremore. They need a good count of how many will be heading up there. Usually we have two groups going to Claremore, one on Friday night and one on Saturday morning. Lunch is scheduled for noon and the degree will begin at 1 pm. Some stay over Saturday evening and head home on Sunday, while others leave immediately after the degree and return Saturday night. Please let me know as soon as you know if you will be going so I can get a good count. They also need to know if your wife will be accompanying you. I'll be printing up maps of the Claremore area shortly and we'll put together some directions for those driving up there.

We always have a wonderful time with our brethren to the north and this year will be no exception! They will be coming to Plano on June 19th and we'll plan a nice day for them, probably some barbecue in the park. So mark your calendars and get the ol' buggy ready for a road trip north.

David A. Starr

plumb.gif (1464 bytes)I have been asked an interesting question and I would like to share the answer. The question was, "What if the Worshipful Master and both Warden's are absent? Who presides over the Lodge?". After searching through the law book, I have the answer. It may surprise some of you.

Art. 269. (308). Absence of Officers. In the absence of the Worshipful Master and both Wardens, a Past Master of the Lodge may preside, but in such case, a Past Master of another Lodge cannot preside. When the Master, Wardens and all Past Masters of a Lodge are absent it cannot be opened; and if already open it is thereupon automatically closed.

This may not seem very important to us as we have a number of Past Masters who attend regularly. But think of other Lodges. If the unforeseen were to happen, they could not hold Lodge. Here’s hoping that we are never faced with such a situation.

Steve Baker, Jr. Warden

NEW TIME FOR FAMILY NIGHT

6:30 PM May 5th

A note from Mac:

Our Family Night get togethers have been so much fun for me this past year that I find it hard to express my feelings toward those of you that have been faithful in attendance. I have so many people to thank for helping in this effort that it would be difficult to adequately name them and their contributions in this letter; but be forewarned, I will do that in the July copy of the Trestleboard.

But for now, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to all our ladies. When this idea was conceived, it was just to let you in on some of what we do at Lodge and to let you know that your contribution to our success, although silent, is paramount to the overall success of any Lodge, since our members spend at least one night a week away from home with your blessing. I hope they each have tried in some way to make it up to you. I was really shortsighted when I thought that was all there would be. For the food you prepare and bring with you, thanks; for your laughter and for being good sports when I have kidded you with my poems and other stuff, thanks; and for sharing your time with us, thanks.

We will meet again for Family Night, on Wednesday May 5th when we will present a special program honoring Mothers. Mothers Day is Sunday May 9th so this will be the perfect time to pay special homage to our Mothers. (Anytime is a good time). I believe everyone will enjoy this program so put it on your calendars now and plan to attend.

We also have a special program planned for June when we will meet on Wednesday June 2nd.

I don’t want to give it away now, but I guarantee it will be of interest to every member of this lodge and this community.

Keep bringing guests with you. Remember that Family Night is for everyone.
