Resurrection

Broken heart that's pierced right through
A peaceful countenance in death.
Body broken, beaten cruelly
Humbled, put to every test.

Hands disfigured, healing hands
Thorns forced through that poor tired brow
Feet that walked in peace so plundered
Yet serene, majestic smile.
Barbarous torment, known beforehand
Suffered first in long travail.
This sad world and human misery
Given hope with every nail.

Oh,
dear Jesus, make us worthy
Give us heart to know and see.
Shroud with imprint, tell the story
How He died for you and me.

Guide us to Your side with praising
Love and honor, Spirit come
Father, God, the triune mystery
Let us know Your loving Son.
Resurrection, Spring's own promise
Newborn life for all to share
Praise the Lord, our God, Almighty
Easter, answer to our prayer!
