About
This web site was started in May of 2001. It was the very first fansite dedicated to the band Puddle of Mudd. I decided to make it after I saw the band in concert, on a seconds stage at Pointfest in St. Louis, MO. I had the chance of watching them up-close. So close, that I could see the stickers they had on their guitar cases, and I couldn't help but wonder why the drum cases said "Chris Cornell" on them. They were the best band there, out of a lineup that included-Staind,OLP, Weezer,Fuel... After searching for a Puddle of Mudd CD at the show, I found out that the band had just been signed by Fred Durst, and their album wasn't due out until July. I also found out that they would be opening for Godsmack, and Deftones in August. Me and the group of people I was with made plans to attend that show. While leaving the venue that night, I picked up a little yellow and black Godsmack/Deftones flier in the parking lot that had a small Puddle of Mudd logo on it.
The next few days after the show, I searched everywhere on the net for Puddle of Mudd. I found a Yahoo Group for the band, and was greeted by JTZ, Ozone, and many more of Greg Upchurch's friends. He was the drummer of the band. I found a CD on Amazon.com by the band Puddle of Mudd, titled "Abrasive." I wasn't sure if it was the same Puddle of Mudd I had seen in concert, but I ordered the CD in hopes that it was. I also came across www.puddleofmudd.com, which at the time, only had photos(the same ones that are there now), and an e-mail address. No Biography, message board, music or anything. I decided I would send an e-mail to whoever it was. I said in my e-mail that I thought Puddle of Mudd was the best band at Pointfest, and I couldn't find any information on them, so I wanted to start a fansite. I asked if whoever it was could help me with some information on the band. A few days later, I got an e-mail back, from a guy named Paul Phillips, who said he was the bands guitarist. He said that he thought it was cool that I like the band so well, and would help me with any information I needed on the band to start my site.
For the next few days, I worked on my site and got some information on the band from Paul. I wrote a biography, and started putting things up little at a time, as the band got bigger. July came around, and still no album from Puddle of Mudd. The release date had been moved to the first of August, and then finally, August 28. "Control" started picking up airplay, and a video was released shortly after. Puddle of Mudd was getting bigger, along with my site. Paul kept me up to date with Puddle of Mudd news. I mentioned to him that I would be going to the show in St. Louis on August 10, and that I couldn't wait to see the band again. He said well why not come backstage and meet us, I'll put you on the guest list so...
August 9, the day before the show, I recieved tickets to the show from a Puddle of Mudd street team I was on, in exchange for passing out promo stickers of the band. I already had lawn seats, but I figured these seats would be better. On August 10, me, my boyfriend, and a few other friends waited until 3:30 for the UPS driver to bring me my stickers, and then we were off for the 2 and a half our drive to St. Louis. Once we were there, we headed up to the Will Call booth, and got our tickets and backstage passes, which we immediately applied to our shirts. I took my disposable Kodak camera and hid it in the bag of Puddle of Mudd stickers that I had, and we got in line. While standing in line, we heard a Puddle of Mudd song. We didn't want to miss them, so we walked up to go through security, where they patted us down and asked what was in the bag. We said we were on a street team, and they were stickers we had to pass out. They let us in. We handed out stickers as we ran to find our seats, which turned out to be fairly good, not front row, but in the first section. We watched the show, and decided to not take any pictures and risk losing the camera quite yet. After the show, we headed backstage. We got through the first gate. That's about it. We hung out on the patio, not knowing what to do since they wouldn't let us go any further. A guy named Steve came out and started talking to us. He told us to hang on a minute and he'd go see if the band was ready for company. He came back out and and said "Come on let's go." He took us to the tour bus. We clumb on and were greeted by Paul. He introduced himself(as if I didn't already know who he was) and gave me a hug. We went to the back of the bus, where Doug was. We talked and watched MTV with them for a while. Greg eventually came back, and we met him. We moved to the front of the bus, where we got to meet Wes, Corey,Tammi, and a few more people. After a while on the bus, we headed to the dressing room. We ended up missing the entire Godsmack/Deftones sets. We stayed back and talked to Paul and Greg most of the time. I also got to meet Big Dave, and Jordan, Wes' son. We got some great pictures with our disposable camera that we snuck in. At the end of the night, after we heard Godsmacks' pyro. finish, and decided we should leave, we got hugs from everyone. and said our goodbyes. When we walked out from backstage, we got dirty looks from everyone. People were saying, "they think they're cool because they got to go backstage, and we've been waiting here forever just to see the band." Some people even tried to buy our backstage passes from us. As we were leaving, the people selling T-shirts were closing, but we ran up and bought Puddle of Mudd T-Shirts. We left that night with the greatest feeling in the world.
