Not alot is known about this site. The main building has been here since WW2, when the Nazis used it for a number of different uses. When the war was over, it was used in the tourist industry as a hotel, though this is only talk as there are no written records. What is known is that Pontins purchased the site in 1994 and still remains the most recent site purchased by them.
The 'Jersey Holiday Village' as it is known to islanders was completely converted By Pontins. They created three self-catering accomadation blocks named Consort, Regent and Horizon. The main building remained with a hotel accomadation theme.
Included in the main building was a restaurant, Bar, indoor jacuzzi, sports bar, kids room etc, with other activities available around the area like archery, swimming, surfing etc. The site was a great success to the island as it was also open to non-residents, though there were restriction that the public had to keep to, such as they couldn't use the pool.
When it was anounced that Pontins were leaving the island, The Jersey Holiday Village was sold privatly to an unknown businessman, who first applied for an application to demolish the site and construct 100 homes. This was rejected, so the owner applied to build 87 homes, which is still being considered by the planning and environment section of the island.
Whilst this application is being considered, the site remains empty. Signs of Pontins are still around. Captain Crocs playground is still up, as well as various pictures seen through the windows.
Whenever I visit the site, which is quite often (not always with the camera!), it never fails to amaze me the amount of damage there is. There is normally doors open, windows smashed and a strong smell of rot and damp and that isn't even in the building!
