an American Legion Member of American Legion Post 119 in Gulfport Mississippi.

Any person is eligible for Membership in The American Legion, who is or was a Member of the
Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or Merchant Marine of the United States.
This means that all Military Personnel now on Active Duty are eligible for Membership in the Legion.
To be eligible for Membership in The American Legion, a man or woman must have
served at least one day of Active Duty in one of the Armed Forces of the
United States during one of the eligibility periods shown below.

Membership Eligibility Dates

World War I - April 6th 1917 thru November 11th 1918

World War II - December 7th 1941 thru December 31st 1946

Korea - June 25th 1950 thru January 31st 1955

Vietnam - February 28th 1961 thru May 7th 1975

Lebanon & Grenada - August 24th 1982 thru July 31st 1984

Panama - December 20th 1989 thru January 31st 1990

Operation Desert Shield/Storm - August 2nd 1990 to the date of Cessation of
hostilities as determined by the United States Government.

National Guard And Reserve
Current and past Members of the National Guard and Reserve may also be eligible for Membership
provided...that they had periods of at least four months of duration for training during one or more of
eligibility times shown above. Annual Summer Camps and Weekend Drills do not constitute Eligible Periods
of Service. Active duty is the key to American Legion Membership. A person need not have served overseas
to be eligible, but he or she must be currently on Active Duty, or possess an Honorable Discharge Form DD 214.
