Anita Mui Fantasy Gig Concert Tour 2002
Performing Guests : Grasshoppers, Samuel
Family Bridges Charity Concert 2002
June 23rd, 2002 @ 7pm
Oakland Marriott Convention Center
At 6:35pm, lines were beginning to form outside the Marriott Convention Center on 10th Street and Broadway. But because the rehearsal was still going on, we were not officially admitted in until 7:00 pm. We started around 7:40 pm with the charity events. We presented awards to the Charity King and Charity Queen **Congratulations** and also had a charity auction. The concert officially started at 8:20pm. With a full-house of anxious fans, Anita appeared in the nice outfit singing multiple songs. Singing about 4-5 nice dance songs, which included both old and new.
Afterwards, Anita talks with us, saying this is a charity concert, and when we get home and look in the mirror, we will definitely look prettier. She asks us how long has it been since her last visit, we all screamed, a long time ago. Then she presented her first guest performer, her new student, Samuel. He sang his new song, and handed the stage back to Anita. She comes out in a big red dress, and then taking it off to a white, sleek outfit, doing some more dancing. And invites her next guest performer, Grasshoppers.
Grasshoppers sang Wou Bom Ba, **I was screaming and swinging my glow-sticks, hoping to also stand-up and dance, but nobody else was doing it, but others would have complained anyways** Then Grasshoppers explained that there are volunteers going around to collect any donation. The music to their next song started, "Friends" **Peng Yau, literally translated from chinese** and to my surprise they jumped down the stage to shake hands with the audience. And without losing any opportunity, I went up and shook hands with Edmond because he was in our section. Then I went back to my seat and looked over to the other side and thought about it, then went for it... I ran over to Remus’ side and shook hands with him. Originally the security wasn’t going to let me, they wanted to push me away, but I said "oh, come on, I just want to shake hands" and the guy reluctantly let me through. **YIPPEE** but before I could go around to find Calvin, they already all went back on stage >_< so I completed my handshakes of 2 out of 3... >_<
Anita comes back out and Grasshoppers surprise her with an award ceremony. June 23rd is known as the Anita Day because of her efforts to do charity for Family Bridges. Then to Grasshoppers surprise, they were also presented with an award for their efforts. Anita joked with Grasshoppers saying, one is Muscle-man (**Remus**), one is Skin-on-bones (**Calvin**), and one is Mustache Guy (**Edmond**), she said last time when she went on tour with Grasshoppers they were still a kid, now they are grown men, and she said the next time they come back, they will be Grandpa Grasshoppers (**hehee...**) she said people know Grasshoppers as the group dancers... and said people wonder if they could sing, so the crowd shouted, "of course" and so she put them to a test to sing a duet with each one of them and she said, "let’s start with the oldest one" (**Calvin**) and Remus and Edmond went backstage to change. Next one was Remus, in a nice black suit. And then it was Edmond. She jokingly said at the end that he had the "man’s taste" (**Nam Yun Mei literally translated from chinese**) everyone whistled and she jokingly replied "she meant it was a bad man-smell" **hehee...**
She talks about her life, how she started at a very young age, and said the only thing missing in her life now is a boyfriend, and she said how many people here also is missing this in their life. she said its okay, perhaps after tonite everyone will have a boyfriend or girlfriend. she said perhaps the person next to you is the one, but she added, what if you turn around and find the person sitting next to you is a guy too? **hehehe...** Then she sang songs from other artists like Faye Wong’s "I am Willing" (**Ngo Yuen Yee**) and other oldies.
Then she changes into a witch outfit, performing as an old lady (**very well done with her motions and expressions**) she sings some more songs. the last song was a dance song, and she does a great solo dancing with the dancers. Very exciting.
Then she comes out with a traditional style chinese dress, causing everyone to scream... she said you guys like this look? and everyone shouted and whistled, she jokingly said, "*sigh* should have told me earlier than I didn’t have to do all that dancing and change all those outfits, I could have just came here tonite and just stand around and sang for you guys" everyone laughed. And this part she sang a lot of older songs with the traditional chinese taste to it. These were all the original songs, unlike some other ones where she re-edited it with some new twist to it.
The first encore came... everyone was screaming and the band helping us to bring the crowd to the height of the concert. Then Edmond comes out and gets the crowd to their feet. Then Remus and Calvin comes out and introduces the dancers and the band players and with everyone on stage we shouted "1-2-3 Anita" and she came out and everyone was dancing in the aisle along with everyone on stage. **Definitely lots of fun**
And the Grasshoppers hinted to the crowd, remember to keep calling for Anita, or else she won’t be coming back out again. So everyone kept shouting her name while everyone, including the band went backstage. **while most people were shouting for Anita, I was shouting for Grasshoppers too hehee... ^_^** then finally everyone all came back out with the World Cup Soccer outfits.. and we shouted for more... so they re-sang two songs that was previously sung. Everyone on stage was dancing and so was the audience in the aisles. Remus and Calvin kept standing behind Anita and pointing at her telling us to keep calling her name... they were very playful... and the second to the last song, Anita requested that we sing a song together which was "Moon Represents my Heart" and so we all sang along with them.. and finally ending the concert with "Stand By Me" Although it was hard to part, but the concert ended at 11:20pm, with everyone just getting the nite started... (hehee... at least it was for me although the following day I had to go to school >_<)
Then everyone was leaving but I was waiting for someone to pick me up so while I was waiting, I was trying to find out where they would come out from, and before I knew I saw the dancers coming out, but no sign of Anita or Grasshoppers... >_< but I told the dancers and the band, "Great Show" and they were very happy... and that ended my nite of excitement although in reality my mind was still left in the Oakland Marriott Convention Center. I came home and crashed into sleep with Grasshoppers music playing... I was dreaming I was still in Oakland Marriott... still trying to find them... this morning I just woke up and laughed... it was a nite of excitement that will be forever kept inside... it was more than worth it... it was a nite of fun... a nite of celebration for Anita’s 20th Anniversary in the show-biz... **CONGRATULATIONS ON THE SUCCESSFUL SHOW, IT WAS DEFINITELY GREAT**
**GRASSHOPPERS - PLEASE COME BACK TO SAN FRANCISCO FOR YOUR VERY OWN CONCERT, TWO SONGS WAS JUST NOT ENOUGH**
