Deus Ex Machina: The Xenogears Tale ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PERSONA SHEET ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Creator Information ------------------- Name or Alias: Ruaki Sex: F E-mail address: Valgarv@aol.com, Ruakichan@aol.com ICQ/AIM/Yahoo! Pager/etc. (if applicable): Valgarv, Ruakichan Note: Demetrius was originally created by Imp Mayhem Character Information --------------------- -Name: Demetrius Cole -Age:20 -Sex:Male -Occupation(s):Gear excavator / Mechanic / Repairman -Substitutes which Xenogears Character? (if applicable): None, really - if you reeeeeeally stretch it, he could be a replacement for Hammer. But that's damned unlikely. -Birthdate: 1/1 -Height: 5"11 -Weight: 143 -Eyes (colour and shape): Thin and somewhat closed, as if stuck in a perpetual glare, slightly sunken into the sockets. A very pale grey color as well; he always has the appearance of being a tad pissed off at everything around him, even if he isn't. -Build: Slim but sinewy. (Toughened from countless hours of Gear repair) -Complexion: Fair & pale. -Facial Features: Nothing overly noticable. He has an 'undernourished' look to him, displayed by his somewhat hollow cheeks and thin jawline, but nothing particularly noticable. -Identifying Marks: None -Hair (colour and style): Thin, silver-grey hair of moderate length and trim. Constantly dishevelled. (He usually wears his checkered bandanna and welding goggles over it, though, which leaves only a few strands showing.) -Voice: A low, deep tone that belies his slim figure. He doesn't speak much, though, preferring to use concise words and short comments whenever he speaks. -Dress/Attire: Typical engineer's garb - Heavy black boots, an oil-stained kahki jacket, sand-colored pants, black t-shirt, his black-and-grey bandanna, his ever-present tool belt (bursting with tools!), a pair of heavy gloves, and a light welder's vest that he wears as armor underneath his t-shirt. Also has a pair of Cid-like welding goggles. -Jewelry (if any):None (gets in the way of working.) -Weapons/Tools (if any): * Weapons: Only one - the 'Slam Hammer,' a long (3 feet) warhammer made out of parts from unrepairable Gears. The hammer's 'head' is an assortment of gears welded together. It appears heavier than it actually is, but it is by no means 'light'. Demetrius can also use maces and other bludgeoning objects, but he prefers hammers. * Tools: Various wrenches, screws, pliers, energy read-out scanners, bolt-tigheners, etc...Basically, any tool necessary for Gear repair that's small enough to carry. -Armour (if any): Welder's vest - a metal vest that covers the shoulders, chest, and lower abdomen. -Personality: Demetrius is a quiet, reserved person who rarely lets his emotions out. This is not so much out of any resentment towards other people, but instead because of his rather introverted childhood. Preferring mechanical devices to human interaction, Demetrius spent most of his childhood time in his father's Gear shop, watching the man excavate, repair, and modify the Gears that came in from time to time. Although Demetrius outwardly seems detached and unemotional, he's really somewhat sensitive on the inside. Not incredibly so - if there's one thing Demetrius hates, it's people being melodramatic - but enough that he's not an utter cold-hearted bastard. He's just a guy who likes his work above people, because that's what he knows best. -Background and History: The son of a Gear excavator in Dazil, Demetrius grew up around machines and Gears of all sorts. At an early age, he showed an affinity to mechanical devices, and before he was twelve he was assisting his father in the Gear shop. As the years went on, Demetrius went on to excavate Gears from the surrounding desert, providing spare parts for his father's business and learning about the different types of Gears as he uncovered them. His prize find was an old, war-scarred Gear that was mostly intact. This Gear - which he named 'Vundrel,' a hero from fairy ales his father told him when he was younger - became Demetrius' hobby, and he spent many months getting the Gear into top shape. When he was finished, Vundrel was one of the most impressive Gears the town of Dazil had ever seen, and people began hiring Demetrius to chart out Gears in the desert or to upgrade the Gears they already owned. As word spread of Demetrius' discovery and talents, a number of high-ranked men in Shevat's military heard about his incredible skill with Gears and decided that they wanted him to help develop new Gears. At first, Demetrius was intrigued by the request, but he turned it down, explaining that he'd prefer to continue working in Dazil where he was born. The Shevat envoy who was sent to inform him didn't take this refusal lightly, and in two days, a number of Shevat Gears arrived to kidnap Demetrius and his Gear, Vundrel. A vicious brawl emerged after that; Demetrius climbed inside his Gear and flew out of the city to draw away his attackers. After a heated battle in the desert - in which he'd crippled two Gears, but found his own Gear to be severely damaged as well - Demetrius limped back to his home to find that the buildings were in flames. Fearful of what had happened, Demetrius went to his father's home. The Shevat envoy was inside the house with two gaurds, trying to beat information out of his father. In a fit of rage, Demetrius took up his Slam Hammer and attacked the gaurds and the envoy, attacking with a force of strength that belied his thin frame. When the two guards were killed and the envoy wounded, Demetrius told his parents that he was going to escape from Dazil and take Vundrel with him, so that the Shevat wouldn't try to kidnap him again - taking enough time to make this point clear to the envoy before kicking him out into the desert. Although his Mother and Father pleaded with him, Demetrius insisted, not wishing to place his family in danger. After picking up some provisions and making some minor repairs to his Gear, Demetrius set out into the desert as fast as his Gear was able. In terms of the character, three years have passed since then. Demetrius has taken up residence in Nortune, repairing the Gears of battlers and keeping his own past hidden. The Vundrel is kept in a private hangar, and he rarely uses it - although he currently finds the atmosphere of Nortune stifling, and the temptation to take out the Gear and leave the city becomes more and more powerful everyday. It finally grew to an enormous climax when Demetrius was sought out by Rivian Spellbinder, the strange captain of the pirate ship, Yggdrasil. The Gear mechanic of the Yggdrasil, Al, was unable to repair the current damage to the Yggdrasil's engine, and so they needed a new mechanic. Dem's accomplishments were known to Gear mechanics all over the Kislev and Aveh area, and Al pressed Rivian to approach him with a letter asking for help. With the chance to finally leave Nocturne was offered to him a silver platter. He couldn't refuse. Dropping everything, Demetrius disappeared from the Nocturne scene, and now works once his greatest challenge yet--the advanced, complicated machinery known as the Yggdrasil. -Mother: Gillian Cole - A grocer and items shopowner. -Father: Viktor Cole - Gear excavator and repairman, although not of Demetrius' calibre. -Siblings: None -Mate: None -Children: None -Other relations: Rivian Spellbinder: Although Riv might be his captain, Demetrius tends to treat Riv like some wayward dog needed to be trained... Marien Annfywn: The two share many commonalities (from interests to personality!), and he tends to think of Mari as an informal apprentice in tinkering. -Secondary Skills: Repair, mechanics, electronics, metalworking...'engineer' related skills, from minor mechanical apparati to Gears. Also well-skilled in using his Slam Hammer in combat - Nortune has taught him many lessons about survival. -Abilities/Disabilities: Demetrius' main flaw is his introverted personality. He has a hard time opening up to anyone, and most people think he's being cold when he actually thinks that he's being friendly. He's very curt and blunt, and has a hard time making good freinds. However, he is immensely adept at anything mechancial, the sheer precision of his work bordering on the supernatural. Sometimes, he can almost 'feel' what's wrong with a Gear before actually opening it up to examine it - or, just by looking at a malfunctioning computer, he can tell what needs repairing or replacement, and how much time it would take to do it. -Hobbies: Building small models of gears that actually work - he sells these at the battling arena for 200 G each. He doesn't sell much, but since he earns most of his money from repairing Gears, it doesn't matter much to him. (The most popular Gear model is one that can separate into four smaller Gears, each capable of independant movement.) But those were the ol' forgotten days. Now he spends his time trying to complete Rivian's demands of a Super-Ygg. (I wouldn't be surprised if.. someday.. somday... Super Dimensional Fortress Yggdrasil IV spawned from Dem's brilliant skills... LOL!) -Current residence: Yggdrasil -Current Life Conflicts: Trying to learn how to interact with people. -Affliations: The Yggdrasil (a nation of its own...) -Other notes: Demetrius has a tendency of sticking things in his mouth and chewing on them - matches, pieces of straw, pens, pencils, screws, bolts, lengths of tubing...this is mainly just a habit of his, but it tends to bug people at times. ('Do you know where that's been? Why the hell are you putting it in your mouth??') Is the Head Engineer of the Yggdrasil. -Gear name: Vundrel -Gear description: A tall, somewhat slim Gear, armed with a large metal hammer. Designed to look somewhat like a gladiator in armor (shoulder plates, a 'skirt' of panels across the waist, and the head is designed to look like a roman helmet.) The Gear itself is colored a dusky yellow with grey and white highlights, and has a great deal of attack and defense power, despite its slim shape. It also has a moderate amount of manuverability - not incredibly fast like some Gears, but fast enough to keep up with the more main-stream models. The one main problem is the lack of any serious armor on the Vundrel. Because the heavier brands of armor tend to weigh down Demetrius' Gear, he prefers to keep it lightly armored, relying more on defense than on hit absorbtion. -Class: Medium attack -Primary function: Cavalry and infiltration. -Weapon(s): The main weapon for the Vundrel is a Gear-sized version of Demetrius' Slam Hammer, built from dense armor alloys excavated from decrepit Gears. (The hammer has more armor than the Gear does!!) Although somewhat heavy, the Vundrel can attack with it effectively, whether it be with the hammer's butt-end (light), with a quick cross-swing (medium), or a massive overhead blow (strong). The Vundrel also has a secondary weapon - a sonic drill - that Demetrius' installed to help him excavate other Gears. It's weak, but in a pinch, it could be used as a weapon. -Abilities/Disabilities: As stated above, the main disability of the Vundrel is a lack of armor. Any 'Special abilities' - if they exist - are currently unknown to Demetrius. -How your character acquired the gear: See HISTORY
