How to create your very
own web page
with Cute FTP and Cute
HTML
To begin with, I truly
recommend you build a site with Tripod/Lycos. I have
heard of a lot of other free servers deleting pages
without warning, and without reason. It's in their
terms of use, they can do it to any and all! I have
never heard of Tripod pulling this!
You will need the following
programs:
1. Cute FTP which comes
with Cute HTML
2. Front Page Express
(If you choose, go straight
to the Front
Page Express tutorial)
First, go to www.tripod.com
and sign up for a unique name! Your web site address
with either be yourname.tripod.com or
tripod.yourname.com I prefer the first choice.
Okay, now once you are
logged in, you should go to a page titled www.tripod.lycos.com/build/welcome/build.html.
Now scroll down till you see EDIT AND MAINTAIN. Click
on Cute FTP. Download it to your desktop so you know
where it is.
Now install Cute FTP.
Follow the instructions step by step.
Now, run the Connection
Wizard
When you first run Cute FTP
it will run the wizard for you. Now, for Choose your
ISP, select Other.

Next screen with ask you to
Label the site. To begin with just name it Tripod and
your user name.

Next it will ask you to
enter the FTP host address. You will put in here ftp.tripod.com
then hit next.
Now just enter your
username (not the website address) and your password
you chose.
Default Local Directory,
choose nothing, just hit next.
To be safe, when it asks if
you want to connect to this site automatically, check
yes.

Now, if you entered the
information correct, you will be connected to FTP
Tripod!
Don't forget to watch
the top where it states Status:> You will then
see a big pop up, just click ok.

Once you have created your
web page, this is how you will send it up to the net.
If you have problems and don't see the above, you may
have mistyped your password or username. It's very
important to keep track of these. Alway, and I mean
always, use a unique password. Letters and numbers
are always best like top44border or something!
This screen is on the left
hand side and is the most important!

See that little folder with
the arrow on it? That is how you are going to browse
to where your images are that you will be putting in
your web page. You must upload each and every single
image that you put in your web page. Backgrounds,
buttons, bars, everything. Just browse to your image,
then double click on it. It will magically appear
over here on the right:

If you edit your html
correctly and send each and every image up properly,
you will have a wonderful web page! Now, you will be
updating your webpage often, so when you want to
upload an update to say, the page titled
3ladies.html, it will tell you that you already have
a document with that name, do you want to overwrite,
click yes. If you made a mistake, click skip.
