Thom Yorke has revealed that Radiohead's new album 'Amnesiac' "comes from a different place" to predecessor 'Kid A'. Yorke, speaking in an illusionary fashion on Spin With A Grin, a Radiohead resource for music journalists, describes the album, which was completed some time ago, as "our secret". Read the rest here. Fred Durst and Wes Borland (Limp Bizkit) were praising Radiohead in an interview after they quit the Big Day Out tour in Australia on Saturday. Here are a couple quotes:
Fred: "Radiohead is making a difference and I think we are yet to make a difference. ...."
Wes: "I love Radiohead. I've always loved Radiohead. And I think that Kid A is just doing everything the exact opposite of everything the pop/boy band wave is doing and not having videos and doing everything in this really mysterious way on this new record is just really triumphant for them."

And so was this :)
A 15-minute program titled "Radiohead A Little Later" will be on BBC Choice on Saturday, February 3rd at 01:00 am. This is a rerun of the band's performance (includes Paranoid Android) from Jools Holland.

Yes, EMI France has let it be known that Radiohead's Amnesiac will be released in France on Monday, June 4. We have no official word on any other county, but it is likely that the album will be released around this date across the globe. US and Canadian fans can expect a release on June 5, we think. Again, only the French date is confirmed!!! Stay tuned!

The February issue of New Music Monthly features Thom on the cover and an article about Radiohead's live performances. It also features 'Optimistic' live from Dublin on the disc.
Well, it looks as though that new Radiohead album is coming along just as planned. Amnesiac, the follow-up to last year's Kid A, is slated for a June 4 release date in the U.K. This would lead one to believe that the album should be out in here in the states on June 5, however a spokesperson for Capitol Records said that the album is not yet on the label's release schedule, but that it's speculated June will be the month the record is released here as well. As previously reported, Amnesiac will likely be more of a traditional release than Kid A, meaning we might actually see "singles" and "videos" and "songs," as opposed to "blips" and the like. And kids, for the record, I am not making fun of Kid A-I thought it was delightful, so calm down please. In related Radiohead news, band members Ed O'Brien and Colin Greenwood made a jaunt out to the Sundance Film Festival this week in Park City, UT, where the two attended a Wednesday night party thrown by Radiohead music publisher Warner Chappell. The entire evening was webcast via the Warner Bros. site, and clips from the night (including an interview with Ed, where he reveals that the band has just finished remixing what could very well be Amnesiac's first single) can be watched now at http://www.warnerbros.com/pages/liveconcertseries/wed.jsp.
Later on Wednesday evening, the party people apparently aired a snippet of the band's Dublin show, some live performances, and a few other videos and blips containing versions of what appear to be "You and Whose Army" and "Pyramid Song," new songs (and live favorites) that are expected to appear on Amnesiac, Radiohead's 5th album. You can also access clips of the interviews and songs at Radiohead fan site: http://www.greenplastic.com/news/index.html. You want more? You got it: you can download a live version of "Dollars and Cents," which appears on Amnesiac, right now at Winamp.com. And then, you can go listen to a big-ass live download series at http://hollywoodandvine.com/radiohead, featuring "Morning Bell," "Permanent Daylight," "Everything In Its Right Place," and "National Anthem." By the way, Kid A is nominated for Album of the Year and Best Alternative Album of the Year for this years Grammy Awards.

Two brand new Radiohead tracks are due to be given their world premiere at the SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL in the US on Wednesday (January 24).
According to www.launch.com, the tracks, presumably from the band's forthcoming record 'Amnesiac', will be played alongside video footage and B-sides from the band at an event entitled 'Sounds For Visual Thinkers'. The names of the songs are to remain under wraps until the actual event.
Radiohead members Colin Greenwood and Ed O'Brien have flown out to be at the Sundance festival in Utah. According to a posting by singer Thom Yorke on the official Radiohead message forum, www.spinwithagrin.co.uk, the band are considering recording a film score at some point in their career, although they are "waiting for the right idea".
He said: "Jonny's big into the idea. I didn't understand how you did it till I went to a flashy studio in London and realised that you just there watching TV playing along. Which is sort of interesting, I tend to do that anyway.
"It would be nice to co-ordinate something that wasn't necessarily a set of songs. For me, however, I worry that this will be like trying to hold water. Everytime I think about it, I see a large neon sign that says, 'Lost it'. However I am getting used to seeing that sign nowadays, so maybe that's OK.
"I suppose we are waiting for the right idea, which is why Colin and Ed have gone to the Sundance Festival, to join the Hollywood jetset!"

Thom Yorke previews new Radiohead album:
Thom Yorke has given the strongest indication yet that 'KID A' and forthcoming album 'AMNESIAC' contain similar musical themes, saying the new record is "the sound of what it feels like to be standing in the fire".
Speaking in an interview in the current issue of the Big Issue in the UK, Yorke maintained 'Amnesiac' has been finished "for six months", and when deciding which album to release, that or 'Kid A', it was simply "a question of which gun to fire first".
Speaking about the inspiration behind 'Amnesiac', he said: "It's about, the things you forget. And remembering...if you look at the artwork for 'Kid A', well that's the fire from afar. 'Amnesiac' is the sound of what it feels like to be standing in the fire."
Elsewhere in the interview, Yorke claims the record features "vocals sung through egg boxes", and the artwork is being made with "a broken photocopier".
Yorke also compared the recent election of President Bush in the US to a "virus". He commented: "When Bush gets in, that'll be the start. There'll be real anger. It's going to galvanise. I totally believe that's true, and there'll be a change for the better. It's like...I know this sounds obtuse, but it's like a virus. All the negativity you hear everywhere, I think it's how a virus works, and how a virus works is eventually it kills itself. And I think we're in the middle of that right now."

Thom Yorke has revealed that Radiohead made a series of short films based on
songs from 'KID A', but they may never see the light of day because of their
original decision not to release any singles from the album.
Speaking on the Radiohead question and answer forum www.spinwithagrin.co.uk,
Yorke said that in retrospect the band "all felt pretty sad" at their
decision not to release any singles from 'Kid A'. He said: "It meant the
only judgement of our music was being made by critics, which was OK and
everything but there is nothing like the excitement of hearing (your music)
on the radio. The reason we didn't have any singles was nothing to do with
artistic credibility...it was just the stress of getting into that area at
the time was too much, and perhaps too misrepresentative." Yorke added that
"half an hour's worth of short films" which are "the best pieces of video
that we had ever made" may now never get a public airing as a consequence.
He continued: "They didn't fit the format, which is bullshit. It makes me
very sad to think that no-one is ever going to see the most beautiful piece
of film that was ever made for our music, which was a full-length video for
'Motion Picture Soundtrack' which has me in tears every single time I watch
it. Or the digitised fucked-up version of 'Idioteque' live, or the
incredibly daft sperm monsters jumping into a pool of blood that went with
'Kid A'."
Yorke joked that the release of new album 'Amnesiac' later this year would
coincide with "singles, videos, glossy magazine celebrity photoshoots,
children's television appearances, film premiere appearances, dance
routines, and many interesting interviews about my tortured existence".

W.A.S.T.E Letter regarding Sundance film festival Wednesday January 24th:
Dear all,
I trust you all had a pleasant start to 2001,
This info may be of use to quash any rumours that may be hanging around in
the ether.
During the forthcoming sundance film festival there will be an evening of
corporate back-slapping hosted by the publishers of Radioheads music in the USA.
The evening will consist of people playing records and watching V7TV i
think. We think it is going to be webcast through a warner brother site and maybe
heavy.com
Radiohead will not be playing at this event
That's all.
Take care
Mungo
Updated:
Thom posted on the official message board yesterday about 'Amnesiac' [thanks GP]:
its a pretty shit turn out for three years.
and june is a long time to wait. i suppose some of the reasons are
1. we need time to finish artwork
2. we need time to produce film work that goees with it.
3. we are really proud of amnesiac and we want to give it a fair chance
within the giant sarcy cogs of the bullshit machine. this means oiling
greasy palms in clever manner. this will take a minimum of 4 months to do
effectively.apparently. and who knows maybe youll hear it earlier..
if you are saying that we did fucka ll for three years i guess in a way your
right. its something like 2 minutes of music a month that ended up on both
records. which is a joke. it is something that we had to do and thats that.
however personally speaking a lot of other shit needed to be sorted out
which was nobodys busniness but ours. we couldnt stay in the same place and
moving on was difficult and stuff but necessary and involved a lot of
heartache. im happy that it happened at all quite honestly and i know we did
exactly what we had to do.
be warned it aint gonna be like this from now on. and the alternative was
nothing again ever if you know what i mean so take it or leave it. sorry if
we did not supply your demand.

Radiohead have said that they feel "excluded" by UK radio stations, including RADIO 1, for not playing their songs on air.
Radiohead famously refused to release any singles from recent album 'Kid A'. However, in an interview with the Radio 3 show 'Mixing It', bassist Colin Greenwood claimed that the "demographics" of certain stations mean their music does not get played.
He said: "I heard the controller of Radio 1 say the demographic for their station is now 14 or 15 to 25 (years old), so I think we are kind of excluded. It is getting harder for our music to be heard.
"It is the nature of the times we are in. Other artists of considerable stature launched albums in the past few months only to see them drop out of the top twenties and thirties two weeks later."
According to this morning's Observer newspaper (January 7), Greenwood's comments, which form part of a larger interview about the musical influences on their work, are unlikely to be aired.
A spokesperson for Radio 1 defended the amount of coverage the band receive. Recently, Radiohead recorded a live session for the station, a DJ session for the station, and Radio 1 were one of the first UK radio stations to premiere material from 'Kid A'. He commented: "We have actually made far more room for Radiohead than commercial stations have, so it seems unfair that we have been picked out. Both Radiohead and U2 had major live performances on Radio 1 last year and Radiohead had unprecedented exposure." [from here]
Jonny and Colin will appear on 'Mixing It', a BBC Radio 3 (UK) program on January 20th at 10:45 pm. Media Guardian has an article about the interview about Jonny and Colin's remarks that BBC is keeping their music off the air. Read it here.
In the February 2001 issue of Jane magazine, musicians were asked to list their favorites of the year. Each person asked had to come up with their own categories. Here are two:
Album of the Year by Madonna:
Radiohead, Kid A
Best Radiohead-Based lie by Dan the Automator:
Being a fashion superstar and record producer has its perks. In case you were unaware, the Handsome Boy Modeling School (my group) acquired the services of Radiohead as the opening act on our recent three-city North American tour. We (Prince Paul and I) performed a makeover on Thom Yorke. He was unsure of what to wear to one of the after parties. He was wearing a light-blue high-neck cableknit sweater that just said "sheep herder." We suggested that he cut off the sleeves to better show off his muscular physique. Need i say more?
