Colin and Jonny appeared on German Television VIVA2 yesterday on a show called "Fast Forward" (taped last week). Jonny compared "The Bends" to Star Wars and "OK Computer" to Empire Strikes Back. Then he said, "But that would mean the new album is the Phantom Menace, but that film was pants so we'll have to think of another film..". Colin said that if you like OK Computer, then you'll like the new album as well. Then they talked a bit about the jazz band and how recording for "Everyone - The National Anthem" was chaotic. Jonny said that he made a mess of conducting because he was useless at making eye contact with the players. Jonny worked on the strings for three months and played his viola to see what it would sound like before the whole orchestra played it. [Thanks Beryl]

More info from the German interview with Colin and Jonny yesterday:
All that the new album is lacking is a title, which will be decided very shortly. The interviewer mentioned that Ed visited Einslive three years ago and said every album was a snapshot of the band. Jonny said that at the moment the "snapshot" was underexposed. The new album is a bit like OK Computer but they still like it. A few more questions & answers on Nigel Godrich, European Soccer Championship, etc.
According to the HUMO interview (Jonny & Colin), Colin commented that the band wants a short record with only 10/11 songs. As for a single, Jonny said, "We want the classic single-record-gig-order: first we play, then we bring out the record, and then we might talk about an eventual single." Colin also told the interviewer, "In September 2001 we want to have finished a new album with all new songs. Before that, everything we still have has to be brought out first."
