News November 19th 2001 MARIAH'S GREATEST HITS Mariah Carey claims that the tracks on her new greatest hits album are songs that, "really need to be heard". Her new double LP, "Greatest Hits" will be released through Columbia on December 3. Unlike her previous collection '#1's', composed solely of number one hits, the new compilation will include a number of lesser-known songs. According to Mariah, she prevented label bosses from calling her last collection "Greatest Hits" as she thought it unrepresentative. Speaking to MTV, the singer said: "I think people are going to like this Greatest Hits because there are songs on it that were not necessarily singles. These are songs that really need to be heard, and I'm happy about it. There's a song, Vanishing, that's on the record that I really love, and there's a song called Underneath the Stars that I always kind of fought for... a lot of songs that I'm happy are gonna see the light of day." Hit singles such as "Heartbreaker", "Fantasy" and "One Sweet Day" are also included on the new album. Meanwhile, Mariah is to release a benefit record for victims of the NYC tragedies. The single, which features the tracks, "Never Too Far", "Hero", and "There For Me", will be released in the US alongside "Greatest Hits" on December 3. "I figured it would be a nice thing to do, to put them both out at Christmas... I fell like it's our responsibility to do what we can right now in terms of music, just being artists and being human beings", explained Mariah. Proceeds from the single will go towards the Heroes Fund, which helps families of relief workers who died at the scene of the World Trade Center terrorist attacks. Mariah will be in the UK at the end of this month to perform at the inaugural Top Of The Pops Awards. Her appearance at the Manchester Evening News Arena will be her first visit to the UK since her much publicised breakdown earlier in the year. Jennifer Lopez, Kylie Minogue, The Corrs and Atomic Kitten will also be performing at the event on November 30. (DotMusic)
November 17th 2001 MARIAH INSISTS HER GREATEST WORK ISN'T ALWAYS MOST POPULAR Despite her headline-grabbing split with Columbia Records last year, Mariah Carey has no beef with them cashing in on her success by releasing a Greatest Hits double LP on December 4. And though a collection of Carey's highest-charting songs, #1's, was released a mere three years ago, she says that collection didn't include all of her best work. "The difference is the #1's record only had [songs that reached #1] on it, therefore I wouldn't let them call it Greatest Hits," she said. "I made a huge deal out of it: You may not call this a greatest-hits [album]. I think people are going to like this Greatest Hits because there are songs on it that were not necessarily singles." "These are songs that needed to be really heard, and I'm happy about it," she continued. "There's a song, Vanishing, that's on the record that I really love, and there's a song called Underneath the Stars that I always kind of fought for. There's a lot of songs that I'm happy are gonna see the light of day." Greatest Hits also includes "Fantasy", "Heartbreaker", "Thank God I Found You" and "One Sweet Day", among others. On the same day that the double album hits stores, Carey will release a maxi-single that features "Never Too Far", "Hero" and "There for Me". Proceeds from the single's sales go to the Heroes Fund, which benefits the families of relief workers lost while trying to save lives during the World Trade Center disaster. "I started [performing] at different charity events where I did a combination of Never Too Far and Hero, " she said. "We made it into a medley and kinda put them both in the same key and just made it work, and people responded really well to it. It's been interesting for me, since the events of September 11, the way people have been playing Hero and talking to me about Never Too Far, 'cause that song is also about loss. I figured that it would be a nice thing to do, to put them both out for Christmas. I feel like it's our responsibility to do what we can right now in terms of music, just being artists and being human beings." (MTV News)

October 3rd 2001 Mariah takes sexy photos for FHM [For Him Magazine].. October 2, 2001 MARIAH FILMS 'DON'T STOP' VIDEO... After being hospitalized, the original concept for the "Don't Stop" video was swiped and a new one was planned. And that plan came to life recently. Over the past week end, Mariah shot the "Don't Stop" video in New Orleans with guest rapper Mystikal, as confirmed by Virgin Records. The video looks set to be a visual feast with locations including a moss draped bayou deep in the swamp, and the famous Maple Leaf Bar in New Orleans itself - a jazz soaked speakeasy club where many famous jazz musicians play. There will be a fair amount of postproduction on the video - including using effects to make multiple Mariah's. As a result, companies are expecting delivery on October 19, 2001. Virgin is considering putting together a 30 second teaser clip for servicing to media up front of the full length video. Virgin also has B Roll from the shoot, which will feature sound bites from Mariah, Mystikal and behind-the-scenes footage. A still photographer was present at the shoot and got shots of every set up. Virgin will circulate a beta clip of the video, 30 second teaser and B Roll and make the photos available over medware as soon as everything is approved.
