Right Ways To Dispose Of Trash
Please read the following guidelines to ensure that your trash is collected
efficiently and that refuse collectors will not be injured while on the job.
Acceptable Containers
- Note: Customers with automated trash collection must use City-issued
automated refuse containers to receive trash collection service.
- For all other residents: Metal or plastic water-proof containers designed
for trash collection, with lids. Containers must be larger at the top than the bottom,
with a maximum of 45-gallon capacity.
- Heavy-duty plastic trash bags, securely tied. (1.5mm thick bags are recommended)
Acceptable Container Locations
- Lined-up curbside or in the alley.
- In alleys, place containers on City right-of-way.
What Can Go In The Trash
- Normal household refuse.
- Ashes or sawdust, thoroughly wet.
- Tree and shrubbery trimmings, palm fronds and lumber (no more than 4-feet in length
and 40-pounds in weight) securely tied in bundles at both ends. It is best, of course, to
recycle most of these materials through curbside greenery recycling.
- Cardboard and wooden boxes, folded flat and tied in bundles. It is best, of course,
to recycle these materials when possible.
- Broken glass, wrapped securely in multiple layers of newspaper.
- Animal wastes, wrapped in newspaper or plastic bags.
Maximum Weight For Containers
- Metal or plastic cans, 50-pounds each.
- Plastic bags, 30-pounds each.
- Automated refuse collection containers, 250-pounds.
