Chapter two

The fox cub, a little confused, looked to where Big Mama had left.

In a nearby tree, Boomer, a woodpecker, was busily drilling a hole into the trunk. Dinky, a sparrow and his friend, watched intently.

Dinky: Good work, Boomer. We've got 'im this time.

Dinky struggled to get a better look as Boomer leaned in closer.

Dinky: Shh. I think he's in there.

Big Mama landed next to them on the branch.

Big Mama: Whew. Am I glad I found you boys!

Big Mama: There's no time to lose. I need your help. Now come on. Come on!

Dinky: Let's go, Boomer! Come on!

Boomer: Well, yeah, but but but. . . Aw shucks!

Boomer followed the rest of the gang.

A small caterpillar appeared from the hole, looked about nervously, then breathed a sigh of relief once he saw that they had left.
