(March 1999) Instant Replay was voted in on a vote 28-3. Each coach will have 2 challenges per half. Each challenge will be used with one of the teams time-outs. If the coach is wrong the time-out is gone, and if the officials were wrong, then the time-out is given back. Also, in the last two minutes of each half, a replay assistant will be able to stop the game and have a play or call challenged. The replay assistants will usually be retired officials.

(April 14, 1999) The NFL Players Draft will start on Saturday. Check your local listings for the time and channel in your area. Also, the NFL Europe League will start on Saturday as well. Check out there web site for more information. www.nfleurope.com

(April 15, 1999) The NFL Pre-Season will begin on August 7. Check your local listings when that date comes along for the games and times in your area.

(April 27, 1999) Referee Tony Corrente #99, is currently working the NFL Europe League with Bill Leavy and Jim Saracino working at the Referee's position. During the regular NFL season, both Bill Leavy and Jim Saracino is a Back Judge. They are currently working at the referee position, to gain more experience at that position to hopefully get that location next NFL season.

(May 2, 1999) Also working the NFL Europe League with the officials above are Referee Pete Morelli #135, which during the regular season is a Field Judge; Referee Kirk Dornan #6, who has three years experience in NFL Europe is active also. Kirk is a Back Judge in the regular NFL season.

(May 16, 1999) I just found out today that Jeff Triplette #42 is currently working the NFL Europe League as a referee also. He works as a Back Judge in the regular NFL season.

(May 22, 1999) NFL Referee Ron Winter, is also working the NFL Europe League with the officials above. Out of the 113 NFL Officials, 72 of those have NFL Europe experience.

(May 27, 1999) The NFL pre-season will now start on August 7. The first game will be the Hall-Of-Fame game in Canton, Ohio between the Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Browns. The game will be played on a Monday night for the first time in NFL History. Also, there will be 64 pre-season games and 63 of those games will have Instant Replay. The game that will not, is the one that will be played in Australia.

(September 11, 1999) NFL kicks off 80th season with Browns return, Broncos chase Super Bowl "three-peat," Marino seeking 60,000 yards. Opening Day

(September 19, 1999) Referee Johnny Grier #23, could not attend his scheduled game, because he felt ill prior to the game. He was scheduled to work the Chargers vs. Bengal's game. Referee Walt Coleman #65 took his place.

(September 19, 1999) Umpire James Duke #74 was hurt during the 1st quarter of the Steelers vs. Ravens game. Line Judge Ron Baynes #56 took his place. Duke's injury was to his right foot. Later, he returned to the game.

(September 21, 1999) Former Referee Jerry Markbreit, has became a replay official for the new instant replay technology. Jerry Markbreit, was a 23 year veteran of the NFL before retiring last season.

(September 26, 1999) Back Judge Bobby Skelton #73, was injured during the Philadelphia/ Buffalo game. He is a member of Referee Jeff Triplette's crew. Updates on his condition will be posted when received.

(October 4, 1999) Line Judge Jeff Bergman #32, was injured during the Seahawks/Raiders game on Sunday night. The injury seemed to be not serious, but doctors were examining his Achilles. Updates will be posted when available.

(October 5, 1999) Referee Bill Carollo #63, worked two games during week four. The reason is unknown at this time. He worked Arizona @ Dallas on Sunday and Buffalo @ Miami on Monday night.

(October 19, 1999) Referee Larry Nemmers #20, has not worked a game since week #2. The reason is unknown to this website at this time. I will post a follow up as soon as I receive the information.

(November 1, 1999) Umpire Scott Dawson #70, received a laceration to his face on Sunday during the St. Louis/ Tennessee game. He was knocked down during a play. The injury was not too serious, he returned to the game shortly after leaving to get a bandage.

(November 28, 1999)  Head Linesman Mark Hittner #28 was hit in the face today by a spiked ball.  When the offensive and defensive receivers fell to the ground, after trying to catch a pass,  Mark went in and slipped on the turf ruling the pass incomplete.  The offensive receiver spiked the ball and it came up and hit Mark in the face.  Mark was ok, he threw a flag for Unsportsman like Conduct.

(January 2, 2000)  Head Linesman Sid Semon #109 will be retiring after this season.  Sid has given 22 years service to the league.  He has received many playoff games and Super Bowl assignments during his career.  

(January 8, 2000)  Referee Phil Luckett #59 worked his first playoff game as a referee.  And they had another controversial call on the last play of the game.   The play showed the kickoff and when the receiver obtained the ball in his possession he attempted a lateral which looked like a forward pass.  It was very very close.  So Luckett reviewed it under a Booth review and the final ruling was that the ruling on the field stood, the ball was thrown parallel to the line of the other receiver.  Updates will be posted on this event.

(January 8, 2000)  Referee Bob McElwee #95 and his crew was involved in a big squabble on the field during the Detroit/Washington wild card game.  A fight broke out between two players and Bob tried to break them up; however Bob got  too close and fell to the ground with the players.  Then the whole team jumped on the pile that Bob was laying under.  Flags were flying everywhere at this point.  Then at the end of the fight, Bill Leavy #127 was inadvertently hit in the head by a player.  The player was ejected immediately when control was gained over the game.  Bob was ok after the event.  He had some microphone problems, but they were fixed and the game went on as scheduled.

(January 9, 2000)  Wayne Gandy of the Pittsburgh Steelers was fined $20,000 by the NFL but will not be suspended for shoving Referee Tom White #123 during the January 2 game against Tennessee.  The reason for the fine, is because the league determined that Gandy came in contact with White two times during the incident. 

(January 11, 2000)  Tre' Johnson of the Washington Redskins, will not be suspended for the fight that he was in during the Detroit/Washington wild card playoff game.  The league says, that he will face other disciplinary action for his involvement in the fight.  Johnson received the ejection after he came in contact with Back Judge Bill Leavy #127.  Leavy was trying to restrain Johnson and the other players and Johnson inadvertently hit Leavy in the head.   Updates on this story will be posted when them become available.

(August 25, 2000)  Back Judge Don Dorkowski #113 was injured during the Vikings/Colts pre-season game.  During a punt a defender accidentally bumped into his left shoulder.   He did not initially appear hurt, but after the play he began holding his left shoulder and was attended to by Colts trainers. This occurred with 6 minutes left in the first half in which he left the game holding the shoulder and did not return.  Field Judge Paul Baetz #22 filled in for Don for the remainder of the game.

(September 20, 2000)  Jerry Seeman, the NFL's senior director of officiating, contacted the Steelers and informed them the game officials were in error for not stopping the clock when QB Kent Graham was sacked on what turned out to be the final play of the game. That play began at the Browns 6-yard line with 14 seconds left and the Steelers trailing, 23-20. Graham was sacked by rookie DE Courtney Brown, and time expired before the field goal team could get onto the field to attempt to tie the game.  According to NFL rules, the clock stops after the quarterback is sacked until the ball is spotted by the referee. That normally takes about five seconds, and then the clock starts again. Seeman's admission of error will do nothing to change the outcome of the game.  (This insert was from www.usatoday.com)
