MY POST-RENT INTERVIEWS! OK, so everyone was pestering me to ask the cast what they have been doing since they left RENT, and what they think about RENTHeads and so forth. So I finally got around to sending all those that I've kept in touch with, an e-mail interview. All the questions were the same, but I would imagine that the answers will be quite different! So far only Matty has replied, but Opell has promised to send it to me once he's thought about it a little bit. And Fiona, Miguel and Gavin have all also got copies. POST-RENT INTERVIEW WITH THERN REYNOLDS (SWING, ANGEL UNDERSTUDY) 1.PLEASE TELL US ABOUT YOUR AUDITION FOR RENT. My audition for RENT was full on!! There were many,many callbacks.I auditioned for over a year!!The last week was the worst.Everyday for 5 days I came in and sang "TODAY FOR YOU,I'LLCOVER YOU and WILL I". I knew it was out of OPELL,MIGGY and MYSELF as we were the only 3 left still auditioning for the role. OPELL got it but I was disappointed but still glad that I got to do the show anyway. And being ANGEL understudy still meant that I'd get to perform the role.I said to Miguel after the 1st time I went on that I didn't care if I ever did Angel again.It was true.I'd fulfilled my dream of playing ANGEL and that was enough for me. 2.IF YOU WERE TO PLAY ANOTHER ROLE IN RENT, WHICH ROLE WOULD IT HAVE BEEN? Looking back,I would say that it would definately be MARK.I love that role.However,JUSTIN was amazing, and I couldn't have done as well as him,EVER!!!!! 3.IF YOU HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TALK TO JONATHAN LARSON, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY? I would probably thank him profusely for allowing me to become a part of an amazing group of people,performing an amazingly written show.I would tell him that he brought theatre into the 90's in a way Im sure alot of other composers have only dreamt about. 4.HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT RENTHEADS? You guys are fantastic!!!There were some nights when we were tired,but having you guys scream and cheer actually helped us keep going.I think you guys are part of RENT.I have never seen people so excited by a show and RENT was my 11th,I think you are all a part of the vital ingredients that make RENT what it is!!FUCKING FANNTASTIC!! 5.HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE ATTENTION YOU AND ALL THE CAST RECEIVED FROM RENTHEADS BOTH AT THE STAGE DOOR, AND ALSO AT YOUR GIGS OUTSIDE OF RENT? I didn't really experience as much attention as most people,and don't get me wrong,thats fine with me.I guess being a swing makes it harder to be recognised by people in the audience.You don't get to do as many shows as everyone else. 6.FOR THOSE WHO LEFT RENT BEFORE CLOSING... WAS THIS A DIFFICULT DECISION AND WHAT MADE YOU FOLLOW THROUGH WITH IT? I stayed till the end,Im proud to say,even though I was dying to get home to Sydney!! 7.WHAT IS THE NICEST THING A RENTHEAD/FAN HAS EVER DONE FOR YOU? Given me a flower from the audience. I thought that was a lovely thing to do. I love flowers.XXXXXX 8.WHAT IS THE SCARIEST THING A RENTHEAD/FAN HAS DONE TO YOU? No-one ever did anything scary to me!!LUCKY FOR YOU!!! 9.WHAT ARE YOU DOING SINCE YOU HAVE LEFT RENT? Since I left RENT,I've been bombarded with work,but wasn't able to do most of it. I helped cast THE BACKLOT TOUR for FOX STUDIOS,had some time off,went to HAYMEN ISLAND for a holiday and am now DANCE CAPTAIN on THE HAPPY DAYS ARENA SPECTACULAR!!! 10.IF RENT WAS TO RETURN, WOULD YOU AUDITION AGAIN AND DO THE SHOW? First of all,I wouldn't audition again!!I don't think any of us should have to. But I'd have to say NO because RENT was special with the people that did it.To do it again without some people would make it worse. If it was the original cast,I'd think about it. 11.WHAT ARE YOUR HOPES FOR THE FUTURE? I hope to find happiness,not only in work but in every aspect of my life. I want to keep achieving,but I've realized that there are more important things in life.I want to be in love and have my beautiful friends and family around me. I'd choose them over my career anyday. But I'm lucky,I have both!! 12.IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WOULD LIKE TO SAY TO THE RENTHEADS OF AUSTRALIA? THANKYOU,for being so supportive and for taking RENT into your hearts as we did.I hope you saw it as much more than a show.I truly hope you understand the many messages that we tried to teach through song and dance,and tears and laughter,and apply these lessons to your lives.Its not hard to love,so do it whenever you can. It's much more important than money,fame and privilage. REMEMBER,there's "NO DAY BUT TODAY". Have wonderful lives and again thanks for your support throughout our season of RENT in Australia. POST- RENT INTERVIEW WITH MATTHEW LEE (WAITER AND OTHERS, MARK UNDERSTUDY) 1.PLEASE TELL US ABOUT YOUR AUDITION FOR RENT.
I wasent even going to Audition for RENT because i could'nt make my First Audition! I submitted a demo and got a time to go, but couldnt make it cause at the time is was Rehearsing GREASE. so i thought what the hell i'll go to an open call. I went, sang Acapella and got given all the stuff for "Mark" (Halloween, What you own, and the opening Monologue). Anyways, went back 1,000,000 times before Finding out that i got a part in the ensemble and Mark cover whilst in a business studies class at school. 2.IF YOU WERE TO PLAY ANOTHER ROLE IN RENT, WHICH ROLE WOULD IT HAVE BEEN? I think the waiter was the only role i could have been considered for in the ensemble cause i got such a baby face. BUt i covered mark, so if i had of assasinated Justin Smith & Peter Murphy then it would have been "Mark" 3.IF YOU HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TALK TO JONATHAN LARSON, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY? WOW... i think about that so often and i never come up with anything. If he were alive i think RENT would have turned out very differently, due to the fact it was still his first draft. I would have asked him about all the people that influenced his perception on all his characters in the show. 4.HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT RENTHEADS? RENTHEADS ROCK! i think its such an awsome thing that you guys can appreciate the show as much as the performers do. Jonathan would have been Honoured. 5.HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE ATTENTION YOU AND ALL THE CAST RECEIVED FROM RENTHEADS BOTH AT THE STAGE DOOR, AND ALSO AT YOUR GIGS OUTSIDE OF RENT? Personally, you guys made me feel like a Rock star!! Everyone in RENT is so talented and you guys really make us aware of that. and its also nice to get recognition for our work. 6.FOR THOSE WHO LEFT RENT BEFORE CLOSING... WAS THIS A DIFFICULT DECISION AND WHAT MADE YOU FOLLOW THROUGH WITH IT? It was one of the hardest decisions i have ever made! i seriously lost sleep over it. but i came down to oppertunity. i had been performing in RENT for 5months and i felt that the film was another step on reaching my career goals! As much as i would miss the show, nothing ever prepared me for the way i would feel when i left my RENT family! 7.WHAT IS THE NICEST THING A RENTHEAD/FAN HAS EVER DONE FOR YOU? um....i never really had one specific thing or person do something for me that was "THE" best thing, it was the continues support, letteres, flowers and just general interest that was the nicest thing. all though getting "Most fun to watch" in your RENTHEAD awards was pretty cool. 8.WHAT IS THE SCARIEST THING A RENTHEAD/FAN HAS DONE TO YOU? Found my Home adress, phone number and email address before i even had a chance to know the person. 9.WHAT ARE YOU DOING SINCE YOU HAVE LEFT RENT? I shot a film which is called "BOOTMEN" whci i played the role of "Johnno", and now am currently in rehearsals for "happy days" (and if you blink you'll miss me) 10.IF RENT WAS TO RETURN, WOULD YOU AUDITION AGAIN AND DO THE SHOW? Depends on which Role i got offered. 11.WHAT ARE YOUR HOPES FOR THE FUTURE? Just to continue working in Theatre and it be my pasion for as long as its gonna take me. 12.IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WOULD LIKE TO SAY TO THE RENTHEADS OF AUSTRALIA? THANKYOU, THANKYOU, THANKYOU, THANKYOU, THANKYOU, THANKYOU, THANKYOU You guys ROCK, and with out you, RENT would'nt have survived as long as it did! |
