P-O-W-E-R of God's Word

HEBREWS 4:12 "for the word of God is quick, and powerful, and shaper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing

asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of thoughts and intents of the heart.

1, p-enetrating power

"The word of God.... Piercing even to the dividing of the soul and spirit...." (heb).4:12).

A.   Gods word penetrates the heart of sinners. it brings forgiveness to those who repent, believe and are baptized in the name of

Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.

B.    God's word penetrates the hearts of his people who are loaded down with burdens. His word provides comfort to his trusting children. Lets look at psalm 119:165 "great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.". Notice I said his trusting children. God's word can only bring peace to you if you have your faith and trust in God.

C.    You want power how about genesis 1:3 "and God said, let there be light: AND THERE WAS LIGHT." A lot of times we don't fully understand the power of this statement. Before God said

"let there be light", it did not exist. God created the light with his word.

 

2.    O-vercommg power

"and Jesus answered.....Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written..." (Luke 4:8).

A.    when Jesus was tempted forty days in the wilderness, he

overcame through the power of God's word. Every temptation Satan cast at him. Jesus overcame it with a scripture.

B.    We must depend on God's word to overcome the onslaught of Satan also. Like Paul wrote in ROMANS 8:37 "Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us."

3.    W-onderworking Power

"Nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net" (Luke 5:5).

A.    peter obeyed Christ's word and a miracle happened. The overflow broke the fishing net. Two ships were filled with fish. All because of obedience to Gods word, and faith that what he says will happen when he says it will.

b.    The power of God's word is the same today. Jesus said, "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done" John 15:7).

4.    E-verlasting Power

"heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away" (Matthew. 24:35).

A.    In today's society few things are lasting. Temporal possessions deteriorate. I can see changes occurring to this city everyday. There are buildings I saw that my children will never see. But I’m glad my Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

b.    the power of God's word endures. Guns, tanks, not even nuclear power, can destroy it. Psalm 119:89 says "For ever, 0 Lord, thy word is settled in heaven". We need to hold on to his word. With everything we have and let the world go. We need the word of God more than anything else, and until we get to the point that all we have in our hearts is the word of God. The devil is still going to find a foot hold.

 

5.    R-evealing Power

"the word of God... is a discerner of thoughts and intents of the heart" (Hebrews. 4:12).

A.    Gods word reveals his will for humankind. It reveals his love and offers the promise of salvation to those who repent and are baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and are filled with the HOLY GHOST. As stated in acts 2:38

B.    It reveals the Holy spirit that empowers, and directs our lives. As stated in (John 16: 13) "He will guide you into all truth".

C.    There is no doubt that God's word is the most powerful thing to humankind.

I.     There is no scientific technology that can separate a soul and

spirit. But the penetrating power of God's word can!

2.    No physiologist can take a drug abuser and change his heart. But

the overcoming power of God's word can!

3.    scientist cant cause something unexplainable to happen. But the

wonder working power of God's word can!

4.    Nothing on this earth will last, not houses, not steel, not even the

earth itself will last. But God's word will stand forever through out

eternity!

6.    We cant read minds or tell what someone's intention is in his heart. But the revealing power of God's word can!

God's word is PENETRATING, OVERCOMING,

WONDER WORKING, EVERLASTING, AND REVEALING!

ABOVE ALL OF THESE HIS WORD IS THE LOVE, JOY

AND PEACE THAT I HAVE IN MY HEART!
