Activision Classics Game by Activision Reviewed by Robby Cox koi@magicnet.net Save: Memory Card Released: 1998 Works with: Memory Card **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: I figured that this would be a good buy. This CD has 30 games on it and most of them are classics. Boy, was I wrong. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: Activision Classics is 30 Atari 2600 games made by Activision. The games are Atlantis, Barnstorming, Boxing, Chopper Command, Cosmic Commuter, Crackpots, Dolphin, Dragster, Enduro, Fishing Derby, Freeway, Frostbite, Grand Prix, H.E.R.O, Ice Hockey, Kaboom!, Keystone Kapers, Laser Blast, Megamania, Pitfall!, Plaque Attack, River Raid, River Raid II, Seaquest, Skiing, Sky Jinks, Spider Fighter, Stampede, Starmaster, and Tennis. Of those 30 games, I had owned Atlantis, Barnstorming, Keystone Kapers, Pitfall!, and Stampede. So I knew what to expect from them. I had always wanted Kaboom!, this was the main reason that I bought this game. When I was a kid, I really wanted Kaboom! for my birthday. We ordered it from J.C. Penny's, but instead we received a different game. We searched for the next few days, but we never found it. Anyways, the games are really old and they definitely show it. The games are really boring to play, with the exception of a few (Boxing, Tennis, Kaboom!, Freeway, and Stampede). This CD would have been much better if it had been presented like the Midway and Atari's Arcade's Greates Hits. There's nothing here but the games. It's also a shame that you can't save your high scores to the memory card. Then at least, you would have some reason to play. Liked: 30 classic games. Hated: They don't stand the test of time. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: Activision Classics is made up of 30 Atari 2600 games. The graphics suck! They look exactly like they did, though. Liked: The graphics look exactly like they originally did. Hated: Ugly graphics. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Activision Classics really has no music in it. The sound fx are just like the original versions. Liked: Same sound fx as the originals. Hated: Same sound fx as the originals. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: The games in Activision Classics control just like they used to. The game design is okay. I really wish that they would have added some info on the behind the scenes stuff of the games. Liked: Good controls. Hated: Presentation sucks. **************************************************************************** Improve: Interview the people responsible for the games and let them tell the stories behind the games. RIYL: Midway and Atari's Arcade's Greatest Hits, Namco Museum series **************************************************************************** Final Words: Activion Classics is a worthy buy if you are a huge retro gaming nut like I am. It's cool that you get 30 games and I only paid $20 for it. I do wish that the presentation would have been better. A Game Boy version with a battery so you could save your high scores would be awesome. But as it stands, the PS version is seriously lacking. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ** Graphics: ** Sound/Music: ** Play Control/Game Design: ** Personal Opinion: ** Total: 10 out of 25 Final Score: 40 % **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None.
