Arcade's Greatest Hits Game by Midway Reviewed by Robby Cox koi@magicnet.net Save: Saturn Internal Memory Released: 1996 Works with: N/A **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: I had always wanted this game for my Playstation, but I found it for $10 for my Saturn. So I bought it. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: Arcade's Greatest Hits features arcade perfect versions of 6 games-Robotron 2084, Defender, Defender II, Joust, Sinistar, and Bubbles. I always loved Defender and Joust. I really liked Robotron 64 and was interested in the original version. I had never played the other games, though. Each of these games are perfect and there are even dip switches that can alter the gameplay, just like the arcade versions. Of the 6 games, Defender, Defender II, Joust, Robotron 2084 and Bubbles are still kinda fun. Sinistar doesn't do anything for me. The presentation of this CD is awesome. You can read all of the backstory of each of these classic games, as well as hear some of the stories from the actual creators of the games. These insights are the real reason to purchase this CD. Liked: Behind the scenes stories. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: The graphics of AGH are good. Each game looks just like the arcade originals did. The menu screen graphics are good. There are some CG videos but they don't really fit the motif. The CG videos are of spaceships and they dock in a hangar and there are some video games there. The interview videos are kind of grainy, but that's to be expected on the Saturn. Liked: Arcade perfect graphics. Hated: CG videos don't fit this game. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: There's basically no music on this CD other than the original music of the arcade games. They sound just like they originally did but that's all. The sound fx are definitely retro sounding, because they are the same sounds that were in the originals. Liked: There's the exact sounds and music of the originals. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: The controls of AGH are exactly like they were in the arcades. The controls are responsive and are easy to learn. The game design is great. You get 6 good games and you get the behind the scenes stories. This is a great package. Liked: Great controls. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Improve: More behind the scenes stories. RIYL: Arcade's Greatest Hits: The Atari Collection, Namco Museum series. **************************************************************************** Final Words: This is a great collection that is worth the price if just for the behind the scenes stories. You also get 6 arcade classics in their exact form. Just buy this game. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: *** Graphics: *** Sound/Music: *** Play Control/Game Design: ***** Personal Opinion: ***** Total: 19 out of 25 Final Score: 76 % **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None.
