Apocalypse Game by Activision Reviewed by Robby Cox koi@magicnet.net Save: Memory Card-1 block Released: 1998 Works with: Analog Controller, Vibration Feature, Memory Card **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: This game stars Bruce Willis. Activision actually had to give him a piece of the company to get him to star in this game. Too bad it flopped. But is it any good? **************************************************************************** Gameplay Description: Apocalypse is Robotron on steroids. This game kicks major ass! You run around firing in any direction killing anything that moves. You do have to jump some, though. This game is as close to an interactive movie as you're ever going to come. There are certain scenes that are ripped out of movies that you get to play. There's a level that starts out where you're in a building and helicopters are shooting at you and they shoot out all of the windows. You then procede through the streets avoiding the spotlights of the helicopters. I'm telling you, this game is amazing! Liked: Awesome gameplay. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: The graphics of Apocalypse are great. They're polygons that look amazing. There is tons of stuuf happening with little to no slowdown. There are also some great lighting effects. There are lots of explosions and things going on and everything looks great. Liked: Awesome graphics. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: The music is awesome. Most of the music is kind of ambient, laid-back music. Sometimes though, the music will switch to real music and there are even music videos that accompany this. This is an awesome event. The sound fx are great, as well. Liked: Awesome music. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: The controls of Apocalypse are great. They allow you to move any direction while firing in any direction. The controls are easy and extremely responsive. The game design is amazing. The game is solid, but there are some ground-breaking features here. They include the best use of the Dual Shock vibration feature yet, the music videos that pop up on the video screens as you play, and there's even some PG-13 cursing. These help make this game something special. Liked: Amazing game design. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Improve: A Dreamcast sequel would be awesome! RIYL: Die Hard Trilogy, Bruce Willis movies on DVD. **************************************************************************** Final Words: Apocalypse is really something special that is totally underrated. If you have a PSX, then do yourself a favor and buy this game. You will love it! If you don't have a PSX, then this game is reason enough to buy one for. This game is amazing! **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ***** Graphics: ***** Sound/Music: ***** Play Control/Game Design: ***** Personal Opinion: ***** Total: 25 out of 25 Final Score: 100 % **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None.
