Donkey Kong Land 3 Game by Nintendo/Rare Reviewed by Adrock adam@dmgice.com Size: 4 Megabits Save: Battery, 3 slots Released: 1997 Works with: Any Game Boy...? **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: Well, here it comes. Another Donkey Kong Land. I bought the first and second DKC games for SNES, but I didn't buy the third one. And I've only bought DKL 1 for my Game Boy. Why? Too repetitive. I mean, at least the second game had some new and improved additions to the game's elements, like DK coins. This game adds nothing but new levels, and... Kiddy Kong. Hmm... somehow Kiddy Kong doesn't seem to follow suit with the other Kongs. All the other Kong's initials have been DK, but Kiddy is KK. OK. It's like some Mortal Kombat game gone haywire. And I'm not trying to sound male-supremasist... but who made Dixie the star of the game? Having Donkey Kong Land 2 with no Donkey Kong was bad enough. Oh, DKL2 was also an exact replica of the SNES version. This game does like the first game and has it's own levels. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: OK. Here's how it goes. Find bananas and get from point A to point B. Play as Dixie or Kiddy Kong. If you feel lucky, try to find all the bonus areas and get the DK coins. Then you'll be the master. The game is still as fun as the others. But the point I am trying to get across is that there is nothing changed between the games! So I think if you already have any of the other games you should not buy this one. Unless you want new levels and stuff. Liked: Fun as the others. Hated: Repetitive! **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: Blurring. Yep. It's kind of ironic, to think of a 16-million color Silicon Graphics computer making games for a 4 color, 8 megabit, portable system like Game Boy. But on a Super Game Boy it's pretty good. And the Color Game Boy palette is good too. Liked: It's GREAT on a Super Game Boy or a Color Game Boy! Hated: On every other Game Boy blurring ruins the game. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Recycled Sound FX. Music from the SNES game. Liked: Pretty good songs for a Game Boy... Hated: Recycled FX from the other installments. Muffled at times. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: A little slick. Screen room is cramped and you'll come by some unseen enemies at times. Liked: Keeps a good speed. Hated: Sometimes slick... and cramped for room on the screen. **************************************************************************** Improve: Color could make it less blurry. Less repetitive! Give it something to make it different from the other games! RIYL: Donkey Kong Land 1 and 2, DKC 1 through 3 **************************************************************************** Final Words: Super Game Boy is where this game shines. But if you want to play this game on a Super Nintendo, you might as well buy DKC3. You could be frustrated with anything less than a Game Boy Color on the road. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: **** Graphics: *** Sound/Music: **** Play Control/Game Design: *** Personal Opinion: **** Total: 18 Final Score: 72% **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None.
