Gex Game by Crystal Dynamics Reviewed by Robby Cox koi@magicnet.net Save: Password Released: 1995 Works with: N/A **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: The biggest 3DO game hits the Playstation. At the time of this game's release, I didn't own a 3DO. So this was my only way to play this game. I later did buy a 3DO and with it received the 3DO version of Gex. I will review it soon. On to the PS review... **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: Gex is a 2-D platform game. It has some unique aspects. They include being able to stick to the walls and even crawling in the backgrounds. This does make this game rather unique. Gex has to attack his enemies with his tail. He also can eat power-ups. That's about it. The game is presented nicely with some very cool one-liners from Dana Gould. They're actually somewhat funny, unlike his old NBC show "Working". Liked: Unique aspects. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: Gex has cool 2-D graphics that almost have a rendered look to them. The backgrounds are very detailed. Each set of levels have different themes. There's a Kung-Fu world, a Super-Hero world, and even a Cartoon world. Liked: Good 2-D graphics. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: The music of Gex is pretty good. It's not mindblowing or anything. The music of the different levels fit the theme of the worlds. The sound fx are great. There are quite a few different one-liners that are bantered around which sound great. Liked: Great sound fx and one-liners. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: Gex controls nicely. The controls respond well and are not overly complicated. The game design is good, but the difficulty of the game picks up pretty fast. Liked: Good controls. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Improve: Make the game a little easier. RIYL: Gex 2, Gex 3, Sonic series. **************************************************************************** Final Words: Gex is a great platform game, although it really doesn't add a whole lot new to the genre. It's different enough to stand out and it's pretty fun to play. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: *** Graphics: *** Sound/Music: *** Play Control/Game Design: *** Personal Opinion: *** Total: 15 out of 25 Final Score: 60 % **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None.
