Game and Watch Gallery 2 Game by Nintendo Reviewed by Adrock gbcam@hotmail.com Released: 1998 Save: Battery Size: 8 Megabits Use with: Gameboy Color, Super Gameboy, Gameboy. **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: Before there was NES there was Game and Watch. They are cool little game units where you gotta get the highest scores. Tiger ripped off of them once the consoles started to come out, with games like G&W's but based on movies, cartoons, shows, etc. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: Ah, the memories. Um... wait... I don't remember these things. Guess I was too young. There's five games. Play to get stars, and you'll get different options to mess around with like Trade and Museum. Plus you can earn a secret game (Ball). They all start out slow so you can catch on. If you are good you can play the games in turbo mode. All kinds of different ways to play, Modern, Classic, Blodern, Blassic... blah blah blah. Liked: Cool. You can earn modes. Hated: At heart they are all the beeping time wasters they always were. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: The Super Game Boy enhancements are cool. They have all of the frames for each game, and they look like they did when they were Game & Watch games. Oh, and the CGB palettes are superb. They look as coloful as Super NES. I think CGB can do Super NES if it tried. This game proves it. Of course, the classic versions aren't as beautiful as the modern versions. Liked: Beautiful graphics here. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: The music is awesome, it's really got beat to it. You might want to stop playing, but the music will keep you attached. The sound FX are above average, and the classic sounds are on par to the beeps and bloops of their inspiration. Liked: Cool music. Hated: Of course you'll get tired of the songs after hearing them for two hours, and you still haven't beaten your best record, and you don't have hardly enough stars to get Ball. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: Simple in-game controls. There is a feature called "Interrupt Save." For instance, say Mom comes in. She says "We gotta run to Pizza Hut real quick." You can pause the game, then turn it off. When you come back from Pizza Hut, you can turn your game on, and it will say "Interrupt Save found" and when you press start, you can go right back to the exact score and place that you were. This is so that you aren't forced to turn off the game and lose your best score. I like this feature. Also, once you play a game for the first time, Toad can give you hints that you can look up in your Note Board. Liked: Interrupt Save. They made a good interface for it. Hated: Some games are harder to catch then others. **************************************************************************** Improve: How come only 5 games can fit on one cartridge? RIYL: G&W 1 **************************************************************************** Final Words: If you liked the old G&W's or the first game, you'll have new blood here. This is one of the best looking color games right now. But, it won't last forever. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: **** Graphics: ***** Sound/Music: ***** Play Control/Game Design: ***** Personal Opinion: **** Total: 23 Final Score: %92 **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: Border Change = Press the START button, and the little box that shows up with the options CONTINUE and QUIT show up. To change the border of that box, press UP and B or DOWN and B. Play as Wario in "Helmet"! This cool code is a little tricky; but here's the deal. Start a game of Modern Helmet and die with a low score. "D.J." the Sound Test: When you are playing some music in the sound test; press the A button to hear a noise from the game. The noise is different for each song. Hidden Characters on the Game Select screen: Highlight any of the games. (Except Ball.) Now, wait a little while and the stars will change into Mario characters from the respective games.
