Goldeneye 007 Game by Nintendo/Rare Reviewed by Robby Cox koi@magicnet.net Save: On Cartridge-3 slots Released: 1997 Works with: Rumble Pak **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: This is the best selling N64 game of all time. Does it deserve to be? Read on to find out. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Description: Goldeneye 007 is a first person shooter. The main difference between this game and say Doom or Quake, is that you have to be smart to do well, not just have a quick trigger finger. You will have to elude the bad guys, not just gun them down. You also have set goals in a mission. It's not just kill everybody and find the exit. This is extremely cool. The plot follows the Goldeneye film to a certain extent. The 4 player deathmatches are a blast! This game has the best deathmatches of any console game. This is just an awesome game. The 1-player game is extremely hard on the higher difficulties. Liked: Spy gameplay. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: Goldeneye's graphics are great. This game looks especially good considering how old it is. The graphics are nice-looking polygons. Everything looks like it should. The people move like they were motion captured. There is even some blood when you shoot people. Overall, this game looks great. Liked: Great animation and blood. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Goldeneye sounds great. The music is awesome and will get you pumped up for this game. The sound fx are nicely done, as well. I wish that there were Surround Sound support, though. Liked: Great music and sound fx. Hated: No Surround Sound. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: Goldeneye features excellent controls. The default controls are excellent. There is also a Turok-like control setting. These are very responsive and easy to learn. The game design is amazing. Liked: Great controls. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Improve: Add Surround Sound.(They are doing this in Perfect Dark) RIYL: Perfect Dark, Doom, Quake, Turok, Metal Gear series. **************************************************************************** Final Words: Goldeneye 007 is a bonafide classic. Does it deserve to be the best selling N64 game? I don't know. Super Mario 64 was more revolutionary when it was released. Goldeneye is amazing and is well worth the price just for the deathmatching. Rare does another great job! **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ***** Graphics: ****(at present, this game would have gotten 5 stars upon it's release) Sound/Music: ***** Play Control/Game Design: ***** Personal Opinion: ***** Total: 24 out of 25 Final Score: 96 % **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None.
