Hexcite Game by Ubi Soft Reviewed by Adrock gbcam@hotmail.com Size: 8 Megabits Save: Battery Released: 1998 Works with: Color Enhanced, Not Dedicated **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: It's a new puzzle game that remarkably doesn't have Tetris in the name. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: I will try to explain the play is well as I can... You play against a human (via link) or the CPU. The board is made of 7 Hexagons. You place a limited amount of blocks into the board. Then the other player or CPU places one. You will make a certain amount of points for better moves. If you fill one of the hexagons you will get bonus points. The point is to get the highest number of points. You can rotate the pieces 90 degrees each way to make them fit in the puzzle. You must make careful fits and compatible edges to put your block in the puzzle. You will get more points depending on how many sides the block is touching. Of course, playing Multiplayer is the best way to play. You can link up two Game Boys and play in a mode similar to a CPU battle. BUT, you can also play two players on the Super Game Boy as well! There is also a level-by-level mode, an in-game tutorial, a practice mode, and instant replay. Liked: A completely new puzzle experience. Hated: Difficult to fit in the blocks sometimes. Ever crammed a piece into a jigsaw puzzle? **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: The graphics are simple, and will probably be looked over. What a shame. But, I thought that the game took good use of the color palettes on both the Super Game Boy and the Game Boy Color. Liked: Good use of color. Hated: Simple graphics. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Nifty little tunes with beat during play. They won't annoy you that much. Some of the sound FX are weird and seem more like they belong in an action game then a puzzle. Liked: OK Music. Hated: Sound FX are... strange. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: Precise control of the blocks. Very responsive. Liked: Smooth like butter. Hated: Nope, it's perfect. **************************************************************************** Improve: More different kinds of rounds should be made. RIYL: A breakaway from the usual puzzle routine. **************************************************************************** Final Words: This is a good puzzle game unlike anything else. The play may seem advanced to some at first, but catching on happens pretty quick. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ***** Graphics: *** Sound/Music: **** Play Control/Game Design: ***** Personal Opinion: **** Total: 21 out of 25 Final Score: %84 **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None
