International Superstar Soccer 64 Game by Konami Reviewed by Adrock gbcam@hotmail.com Save: Controller Pak Works with: No Rumble or Expansion Support **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: What do you think of when you think about Nintendo 64 sports games? NFL Blitz? ASB 99? One should not forget about one of the best sports games Nintendo 64 has to offer... the International Superstar Soccer series. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: Compared to the FIFA games, the ISS series has more of an arcade feel. But, that doesn't mean it can't do simulation. You can create and rename players, substitute injured players, play a series or international tourney, practice field tactics like corner kicking, and more. Lots of options make for a varied game every time. You can set the field up for snow and rain, day or night (with great lighting effects), or you can just play a good old sunny day game of soccer. There are 5 fields to choose from, each very different from the next, with some of the most realistic crowds of any sports game on N64. Any Blitz fans? Turn off all of the fouls and stuff, and you'll have a rough, dirty experience similar to Blitz! Tripping the goalies while they are throwing it in is funny as hell. Liked: Superb arcade style action! Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: The characters and field certainly have a more arcade style look than any other soccer game on the market. It is certainly NOT blurry or flat. The field graphics during night games are something to marvel at. Konami put a lot of work into the crowd animation, whereas in games like WCW Vs. nWo World Tour, the crowds are flat and barely animated. Liked: Arcade style graphics. Good work on the crowds! Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Sadly, there is no Blur, or Fatboy Slim, or Chumbawamba, or any original theme songs in this game. The songs in the game are kind of dull... But I do like the announcer. He calls all the play by play, isn't really annoying or anything, and he's got a killer accent! :) Liked: Cool announcer... Hated: No modern music. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: They are excellent! Responsive and everything. There are lots of moves to learn though, like a one-two, but the good thing is you won't really need them. Liked: Responsive, awesome controls. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Improve: Modern music... RIYL: Soccer, NFL Blitz. Kicking people's butt. **************************************************************************** Final Words: NOT a game to be looked over, this game belongs in any soccer player's N64 collection. Or any N64 collection for that matter. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ***** Graphics: ***** Sound/Music: **** Play Control/Game Design: ***** Personal Opinion: ***** Total: 24 Final Score: %96 **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: Big Heads On the C Buttons, press Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right.
