Killing Time Game by Studio 3DO Reviewed by Robby Cox koi@magicnet.net Save: 3DO Internal Memory Released: 1995 Works with: 3DO Flightstick **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: The screenshots that I saw of this game made it look awesome. It turns out that this game is not very much fun. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Description: Killing Time is a First-Person-Shooter in the vein of Doom or Quake. You run around killing villains and flipping switches. There are some very cool things about this game. First off, it takes place in an abandoned mansion in which the story is told by Full-Motion Video flashbacks that just show up as you play. This is very cool. The game doesn't stop to load up some FMV, it just shows up in the field of play. The biggest problem with this game is that it's basically just one large level. You will be lost basically as soon as you start. It gets old wandering around in circles after a while. Liked: Unique elements. Hated: Walking in circles. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: Killing Time's graphics are pretty good. Everything is made of sprites, though. The FMV is very clear and as I said earlier, it's very cool when it just pops up in the field of play instead of waiting on it to load up. Some cool touches are when you shoot the hunters, they spray blood from their necks. You can also kill psycho ducks. Overall, the graphics are pretty good. Liked: Good graphics. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Killing Time has some excellent music. It is performed by an actual jazz band. Some of the music is spooky sounding, but when you're in the right areas, some excellent jazz music will play. The sound fx are good. There's also some excellent voice acting, as well. Liked: Great music. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: Killing Time has good controls. The controls are pretty easy to learn. The game design is okay, but the game gets old when you have to continue to walk in circles becuase you're lost. Liked: Decent controls. Hated: Walking in circles. **************************************************************************** Improve: Instead of one large level, make a whole lot of smaller ones. Also add polygon graphics. RIYL: Doom, Doom 64, Quake, Turok Series. **************************************************************************** Final Words: Killing Time is a different FPS. This differentness may actually hurt it. It has some very unique elements, but it gets old rather quickly. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ** Graphics: *** Sound/Music: ***** Play Control/Game Design: ** Personal Opinion: ** Total: 14 out of 25 Final Score: 56 % **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None.
