NBA Live '96 Game by EA Sports Reviewed by Robby Cox koi@magicnet.net Save: Memory Card-4 blocks Released: 1996 Works with: Multi-Tap **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: This was the first NBA Live game that I ever bought. I had bought NBA Showdown(SNES) and Lakers Vs. Celtics(Genesis) and Bulls Vs. Lakers(Genesis), though. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Description: NBA Live '96 is a very simple basketball game. It's not as simple as NBA Jam, but it's much more simple than Kobe Bryant in NBA Courtside. What I mean by that is that it's very simple to score. Other than that this is a rather fun b-ball game. Fun but simple. Liked: Simple gameplay. Hated: Simple gameplay. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: NBA Live '96 has some decent 2-D sprite graphics. The sprites are small, but look sorta like the real thing. The arenas are excellent, though. The graphics are colorful and everything moves pretty quickly. Liked: Decent graphics. Hated: 2-D sprites. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: NBA Live '96 has some sweet music. The songs are cool and fit the game like a glove. There isn't any play-by-play commentary, but with the cool music, it's very reminiscent of being at a real NBA game. I think that this is something that more B-ball games should try. The music comes on when a ball goes out of bounds or to pump up the home team. The sound fx sound like they should. Liked: Cool music. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: NBA Live '96 controls very easily. The controls are excellent for someone who's not really into basketball. The game design is pretty good. There's the usual bells and whistles here. Liked: Easy controls. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Improve: See NBA Live '99 to find out how they improved the series. RIYL: NBA Live series, Kobe Bryant in NBA Courtside, NBA Jam series. **************************************************************************** Final Words: NBA Live '96 is a solid b-ball game for a b-ball newbie. If you don't really care for the simulation style of b-ball games, then NBA Live '96 is for you. For b-ball vets, check out the newer b-ball games. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: *** Graphics: *** Sound/Music: ***** Play Control/Game Design: *** Personal Opinion: *** Total: 17 out of 25 Final Score: 68 % **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None.
