NBA Jam Game by Acclaim Reviewed by Robby Cox koi@magicnet.net Save: Password Released: 1993 Works with: 4-player adapter. **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: NBA Jam was an absolute classic upon it's release. Is it still? **************************************************************************** Gameplay Description: NBA Jam is basically 2-on-2 basketball, but on steroids. There are wildly flashy dunks and players who literally set the nets on fire. This is an extremely fun multi-player game, but it gets a little frustrating as a one-player game. The computer cheats a lot. This is a very simple, but enjoyable basketball game. One problem is that you can only play as the 2-man teams picked for you. What I mean by this is that if you want to play as my hometown Orlando Magic, you will have to play with the team of Nick Anderson and Scott Skiles. That's pretty weak! Liked: Fun gameplay. Hated: No player choices. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: NBA Jam looked great at the time of it's release, but it looks dated today. The players are somewhat small sprites, but they move very quickly. The game really doesn't slow down even when there's lots of stuff happening. Liked: Decent graphics. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: I was shocked to hear how badly this game sounds. I remembered the music and sounds as being rather good, but they're not anymore. The music sounds like crap and the sound fx are pitiful sounding. The sound fx don't even sound right. Liked: Nothing. Hated: Poor music and sound fx. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: NBA Jam controls pretty well. The controls are very responsive and easy to learn. The game design is good, as well. Liked: Great controls. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Improve: Fix the music and sound fx! RIYL: NBA Hang Time, Kobe Bryant in NBA Courtside. **************************************************************************** Final Words: If you're still stuck in the 16-bit ages, then NBA Jam is an excellent purchase for you. It's still a classic. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: **** Graphics: *** Sound/Music: * Play Control/Game Design: **** Personal Opinion: **** Total: 16 out of 25 Final Score: 64 % **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None.
