NBA Jam 99 Game by Acclaim Reviewed by Adrock adam@dmgice.com Size: 8 Megabits Save: Password Released: 1999 Works with: Black Cartridge (Color palette for CGB, but still works on GB) **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: You know, I wish that there were some way, that I could play basketball, outside in the rain, and not get wet. Now wouldn't that be great, hmm? **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: NBA Jam 99 is the newest Jam game for the handhelds. The play hasn't strayed much though, from the past two GB Jam games. Those familiar with NBA Jam know that it is NBA basketball, two on two, with a fast arcade feel. It works out great. The Game Boy version has retained the feel of the SNES games. Of course NBA Jam 99 was never on SNES... Oh well. This game has Season mode, Head to Head mode (which is just a single game), practice mode, and lots of cool options. The season mode is from the N64 game. Liked: Fun and fast action. Hated: Repetitive play, but somehow not as bad as the other Jam games... **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: Color graphics. They are real nice. It doesn't use many of Game Boy Color's special enhanced graphics, but at least it's there. It was probably one of the games that was black and white only at first, then they added color later. Heh. The framerate of the players makes it look like they are floating down the track. Their feet movement looks unrealistic. Plus it's kinda hard to tell who is who sometimes. But the court and stuff looks great. The graphics are fairly clear on any version of Game Boy. Liked: OK Color Graphics. Hated: Framerate of players. Could use GB Color's power more. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: The Sound FX and Music are good. Personally though, I usually turn the music off. It makes things easier on me. Liked: Easy on the ears. Music can turn on and off. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: Responsive controls. Start is your Turbo button (that's the button that gives you a speed boost, you use it a lot). You might have to use your index finger to press the Turbo button at times. Liked: Responsive controls. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Improve: The engine's getting old. If another NBA Jam is made, let it use the GB Color's power to create a new, more exciting game. RIYL: Basketball, the other NBA Jam games. **************************************************************************** Final Words: NBA Jam 99 is a good game for b-ball fans. But you might want to see what Kobe Bryant GBC looks like before you make a choice... Or wait to see it in a bargain bin. If color or new players doesn't matter to you, might as well get the other games. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: **** Graphics: **** Sound/Music: **** Play Control/Game Design: **** Personal Opinion: **** Total: 20 Final Score: %80 **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None.
