The Legend of the Mystical Ninja Game by Konami Reviewed by Adrock adam@dmgice.com Size: 2 Megabits Save: Password Released: 1998 Works with: Any Game Boy **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: Well, I've played the SNES version. How is this one? **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: Hmm... I don't know about this game. I mean, it's got what it takes. It just doesn't go through. The game reminds me a little bit of Link's Awakening, but with more of an action game feel. You have your choice of three characters. Goemon (The "Tom Cruise" of the group), Sasuke (The "Keanu Reeves" of the group) and Ebisumaru (The "Chris Farley" of the group). Wow, what a great way to review a game. Comparing the characters in the game to actors. How... me. Anyways, it's got 6 stages and a couple of mini-games. You're trying to stop a gang of pirates that go by the name of "The Black Ship Gang." I found it pretty funny at some parts. One guy says "The Black Ship gang hails from the Black Ship"! Hahaha! Oh, why me laugh. One lady says "Are you a ninja? Does that mean you can cross a river with a bamboo stick in your mouth?" Heh heh. Some of it is badly translated... And the humor STILL doesn't make up for the otherwise lackluster gameplay. Liked: A pretty funny game sometimes. Hated: Too shallow. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: It's Super Game Boy enhanced. The Super Game Boy frame is OK, but the palettes are too basic. You know, I was thinking "Whoa!" when I first saw the title screen... then the Character Select screen. But was disappointed when I started playing the game. The graphics aren't too eye-catching. Liked: Good SGB frame. Hated: The graphics don't help. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: The music has a far-east feel to it. I think they did an OK job on the music. The sound FX are pretty good too. But, nothing drastically different or outstanding. Liked: OK Music and FX. Hated: The Music and FX don't help, either. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: Jumping and hit detection isn't too good. It's... well... first gen. I wonder... did they remake this game from an old Japanese game? It feels that way. Liked: The Zelda feel has merit at first. Hated: Too primitive for most tastes. **************************************************************************** Improve: Start over! Make it more fun to play! RIYL: Hmm... Zelda or 007. Or FFA. I guess. **************************************************************************** Final Words: Only buy it if * It's cheap. * You have some former knowledge of Goemon. * You're out of any other good games to buy. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: *** Graphics: *** Sound/Music: *** Play Control/Game Design: *** Personal Opinion: *** Total: 15 Final Score: %60 **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: Nah.
