Super Game Boy Accesory by Nintendo Reviewed by Adrock gbcam@hotmail.com Released: 1994 Height: About 5 Inches Width: 5 and 1/4 inches Depth: About 1 Inch Weight: About the same as a SNES cartridge. (Less than half a pound.) Colors on-screen: 32 in screen, 256 in Border. Total Palette: Same as SNES (Unknown at time of writing.) **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: I bought this to play my Game Boy games on a big screen. I could hardly wait for this product to come out... I read all about it in Nintendo Power. The frames, palletes and borders sounded cool. So how'd it workout? Impressions: Using it is easy, just pop in your game, and play. There are two button layouts one for B=Y and A=B, for playing like a Super NES game, and one for B=B and A=A, for playing like you would on a Game Boy. 32 palettes and 8 borders (The game doesn't run in full screen on TV because of resolution) are included by default. Plus there are custom borders and palettes that the user can set. If a Game Pak has a specific label on it, it has it's own special border and full color palette. The first game of this type was Donkey Kong "94". Liked: Some games, not saying most, look very nice with Super Game Boy, with inspired default palettes (Metroid) and SGB Enhanced (DK94) games. There are games out there that let you play with 2 to 4 controllers (Wario Blast). There are also games that have digitized sound (DK94's Princess says "Help! Help!" on SGB,but only says "Squeak! Squeak!" on GB), and some can even have thier own Super Nintendo Games built in! (Space Invaders.) Sad to say, most GB games haven't taken advantage of all that SGB has to offer, but when they do, it looks real nice! Hated: No battery to save your borders (!). Most palletes are four shades of blue, four shades of pink, etc. Some games will take some tampering to make a perfect fit, so write down that password. Too bad they can't take advantage of changing the background and sprites seperately instead of making you use only 4 colors. As I found out thehard way, it won't work with that old game enhancer known as Game Genie. It ignores anything the programmers code says about Game Boy Color's palettes. And you can't use you Game Link, either. Final Words: If you're worried about your battery supply and you're squinting at that rather small screen, Super Game Boy will make your Game Boy games look great. The need for a new SGB is a hand, though. Possibly for N64, or even Nintendo's next console?I'd like to see this new SGB have Game Boy Color compatability. Codes: At the menu, Press:(L, L, L, L, R) to see the screensavers for each frame. (R, R, R, L, L, L, R, R, R, R, R, R) to see the SUPER GAMEBOY CREDITS. Score: 75%
