Sunset Riders Game by Konami Reviewed by Robby Cox koi@magicnet.net Save: None Released: 1993 Works with: N/A **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: A western-themed game where you play as cowboys? It's a strange idea that could work. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: Sunset Riders is a side scrolling shooter, well sort of. You walk from left to right blasting anything that moves. You mow through the bad guys until you get to the boss. Then repeat again. This game is so unique that the tired formula really doesn't get in the way. There are all sorts of different enemies to destroy. There's also some different types of stages. There's 2 stages where you ride on horseback, there's one where you climb up a mountain, and there's one where you cross a moving train. The bosses are very cool. You can jump, shoot, and slide. That's all that you really need, though. Playing with 2 players is a blast!!! Liked: Playing as a cowboy. Hated: Tired formula. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: The graphics of Sunset Riders are great. The cowboys look cool, as do the enemies. The bosses are large and well-detailed. Liked: Cool bosses. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: The music in Sunset Riders won't win any awards, but it gets the job done. The sound fx are really good. There's also a good amount of voices for a SNES game, but they don't sound all that good. Liked: Great sound fx Hated: Poor voice quality. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: Sunset Riders has perfect controls. They're simple and easy to learn. The game design is okay. Liked: Perfect controls. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Improve: It would be so cool if they made a Sunset Riders 64, where you had total control of where you wanted to go. Imagine riding a horse, like Epona in Zelda:Ocarina, and shooting bad guys with 2 sawed-off shotguns in a barren desert, only sparsely decorated with cacti. That would be awesome!!! RIYL: Mega Man series, Contra **************************************************************************** Final Words: If you like great games, and who doesn't, check Sunset Riders out. It's one of the best games that I own on any sytem. It's a super-fun 2 player game. I just hope that a sequel sees the light of day in my lifetime. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ***** Graphics: *** Sound/Music: *** Play Control/Game Design: **** Personal Opinion: ***** Total: 20 out of 25 Final Score: 80 % **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None Template courtesy of Philip Wesley.
